New Card Making Video Scrappy Tails Layering Spring Birds

Hey cardmaking friends, I have a fun new video to share with you today, creating two cards using Scrappy Tails Layering Spring Birds.  Sabrina and Kirsten from Scrappy Tails Crafts were kind enough to send me some goodies to play with and I had a ton of fun with them as you will see.  Their dies are crazy amazing, they cut so beautifully.  The birds I’m creating today have a base and then pieces for the overlays and they fit perfectly together.

Once I had the little birdies made, I created some fun watercolor backgrounds with my Lindy’s Magical Powders.  I walk you through that in the video as well.

Both of these cards are A2 sized.  Next, the branches are identical just place in opposite directions on the cards.  Finally, in the video I show you two ways to create the birds.  One is die cut all in white and ink blended.  The smaller bird, starts with a white base, and I die cut the overlays from blue cardstock.

If you LOVE to paper piece, you are going to loves these dies.

How to create the Scrappy Tails Layering Spring Birds Card 1

Start by die cutting the Layering Spring Birds – large bird in white hammermill card stock.

Next, use Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Inks in:  Marine, Codetta and Royal for the blues, and Latte, Cappuccino, and Mocha for the browns.  Using a small blending brush, add the colors to all the bird pieces and then glue them together.  Watch the video below for color ideas.

Then, die cut the branch and flowers from the Layering Blue Jay dies , craft and pink and yellow card stock scraps.

Finally, use Lindy’s Magicals in:  Time Travel Teal, Tibetan Poppy teal, Hydrangea Blue and Lucky Shamrock Green to create a pretty watercolor card base. (I walk you through that in the video as well).

Then, once the card front is dry, use Tim Holtz Stencils to add some gold rub on to the background for added interest.  Stencils used:  Blossom Layering Stencil and Ringer Layering Stencil

Add a sentiment from the Spring Birds & Bloom Stamp set, and embellish the flower centers with Studio Katia Hibiscus Pearls.

How to create the Scrappy Tails Layering Spring Birds Card #2

Start by cutting the bird base and chest pieces from white, the rest from blue cardstock.

Add a small amount of light blue ink to the chest of the bird and the chest overlay, and they glue all the pieces on.

From here, all the steps are the same as above

  1. Beautiful cards Sandi! I’m thinking maybe I need a fan brush for application of the Magical powders. Your backgrounds are so so pretty! And thank you for the helpful video!

  2. Just watched your video. The cards are so pretty with all the shine. I just added the metallic rub kit to my cart. Love how easy it looks to get the thin gold layer. I had to laugh about you mentioning the paint in your fingers. I gave up worrying about that years ago as in my former life I used dyes and stains in almost job I had as a biologist.

    1. I know right, haha. all the other gals have such pretty nails in their videos – well, with me, you get what’s real that day, broken fingernails and paint all over my hands from running back and forth between coats to tape this video, LOL. it is what it is and I just deal with it.

      1. I gave up worrying about my nails years and years ago. I love the fact that you are a what it is it is person! Your cards are special and that is what matters!

  3. Wonderful colors and backgrounds are really outstanding. Love the birds! Thanks for making this tutorial it took away some of my coloring apprehension! Do you have to seal any of the products you used so they don’t rub off?

  4. They are FABULOUS! The backgrounds are so vibrant, you work wonders with those powders. Love the beautiful birds too, look like a great set of dies.
