Hey card making friends. Don’t you just love it when you can make a unique shaped card? I sure do so I was over the moon excited for this months’ Spellbinder’s Large Die of the Month Kit. It’s a Whale in a Bottle Shaped Card. Yes, it took a few hours to create this card mostly because I decided to ink blend all the individual pieces for the cards. Then there was all the Lindy’s Gang magical powders papers for the kelp and coral. BUT, it was worth it don’t you think?

You of course do not have to make this into a bottle shaped card. You can cut just one outline bottle and then attach the entire thing to an A2 sized card base. But I love the shape, so I cut two, scored the back so that it would open, and glued the top together.
How to make the Spellbinders Whale in a Bottle Shaped Card
Start by die cutting all the bottle pieces from white cardstock. The base is in 3 parts, so cut and ink blend them and then tape them together at the back for the bottle base.
Next, Ink blend all the water type pieces with PinkFresh Inks: Ocean Breeze, Aquamarine and Tidal Pond. Cut the ocean bottom from a piece of Portobello cardstock and ink blend it with Distress Oxide Ink in Hickory Smoke and Brushed Corduroy.
Then, die cut the whale from black and white, the rocks from FOG Cardstock. Ink blend the rocks with Hickory Smoke then use a Tombow Marker N55 to add the dots to the shadows. Use a brown marker N977 to add dots to the sand. Die cut the cork, string and tag all from Portobello as well and ink blend these pieces too.
Embellishing the Whale in a Bottle Shaped Card:
Start by using left over pieces of Lindy’s Magical powders watercolor papers, and all the fun little dies in this month’s kit, die cut the coral and kelp. ( I have videos over on my YouTube channel for making the Lindy’s Magical powders backgrounds).
Next, glue them in and around the rocks.
Then, use the outline die to cut two bottles out of light gray cardstock. Adhere the bottle to the front, add the whale, the cork and the tag overlays.
Finally, embellish with the “splash” die, and some round white pearls to look like bubbles.
The ocean theme this month for the Spellbinders MONTHLY KITS is absolutely fabulous. Stay Tuned, I have tons MORE inspiration coming very soon.
