Sandi MacIver – Papercraft Artist – Darby Love Valentine Cards
Hi stamping friends and Happy Valentine’s Day to you. A few weeks ago, I was exploring the “New Products” section of the Simon Says Stamp site, it’s my favourite early morning activity while I’m waking up with my coffee.
Many stamp companies put out new releases each month and I find that Simon Says Stamps houses a great selection of my favorite companies. I can see them all in one place, pick a few favorites and they all ship in one box (and one shipping fee – yeah!). Today’s “Darby Love” stamp came from one of those early morning cyber jaunts and he is from Impression Obsession.
It also gave me the chance to catch up on some colouring for the 30 Day Coloring Challenge over on the Daily Marker Blog. This little“Darby” melted my heart and I knew I had to have him as soon as I spied him here. I noticed yesterday, there is another version just released without the heart. We are a dog loving family, so little Darby made the perfect valentines for my sweet hubby Ian (from me and the dogs haha).
I used my Copic Markers for todays share: Browns: E31, E35, E57 and I didn’t blend, I used short soft strokes starting with the lightest marker and working towards the darkest, layering the strokes to create his hair. I used the same colours with much longer strokes to create the fence he is leaning on. I admit I’m still working on mastering this technique and resisting the urge to blend, haha.
Quick Steps for the Darby Love Valentine Cards:
For the Hearts and Collar I used Reds: R24, R29, R39. I added a little detail with my Eniball Signo White Gel Pen and then a little bit of the Nuvo Glitter Drops – White Blizzard.
- Stamp the image in VersaFine Onyx Black onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 80# cardstock
- Colour the image with the copics
- Stamp a couple of extra hearts onto scrap paper, colour and cut out
- Stamp the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp – Love Always – also in VersaFine Onyx Black.
- Adhere the art piece to a mat of Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red cardstock.
- Attach to an A2 card base of Dark Chocolate with foam tape. For the second card I made the card base Simon Says Black.
- Use Glue Dots to attach the extra hearts
- Add a small amount of Nuvo Glitter Drops to the hearts.
The Sentiment is from Simon Says Stamps – Love Always Stamp Set.
One of our Corgis, Oscar has been through cancer and while he is still doing great, he is aging a little earlier and has some little gray hairs sneaking in. So for the second card, I used the White Uniball Gel pen again, this time on his hair, to add some grays. For this card I also changed the direction of the board he is leaning on to make it more like a fence post. I added a little detail to the post with a thin black Copic pen. He is mounted onto a Simon Says Black cardstock base.
