Face the Sun

I was so excited the other day when my Picket Fence Studios Face the Sun stamp arrived and this morning, I made a big pot of tea and sat down to color this fabulous sunflower.

I using my Misti Stamping Tool to stamp the image onto some Strathmore Bristol card with Gina K Amalgam Black ink.  Stamping with my Misti ensures I will get every bit of the gorgeous detail in this stamp.

The Arteza real Brush Pens 48 set is so vibrant that I couldn’t resist using them again on this fabulous Sunflower, especially those yellows!  BUT, you will be seeing it again soon in other mediums, I promise.

Picket Fence Studios Face the Sun 3

For the Face the Sun Flower Petals

I flooded with Yellow A-128, then from the bottom up pulled in A-105 , A112 and shadowed with A-178 and A-102

For the green leaves:

Front highlighted leaves A-111, leaves in the back A-185, I did a few leaves in A-138 which is a pretty blue and hard to see in some of the pictures.  I shadowed the light leaves with A185 and A102 and highlighted with the light yellow A-128

For the brown leaves:

I flooded with A-157 then highlighted with A-178 and shadowed with A-102

For the Face the Sun Background:

I used A-117 wet. (wetting the paper first with an water pen), and blended in small sections before moving on to the next, keeping the edge wet so I didn’t end up with start and finish lines.

This Face the Sun stamp has amazing shadow highlights making it easy to color and add details.  It also comes with encouraging and thoughtful sentiments in a beautiful font.  I know life is interesting right now, but I prefer to embrace it in a positive note, so these sentiments really spoke to me.  I’m going to enjoy coloring this image many times over and sending the cards to friends as a little “hello, how are you”.

Finally,  the image even has “splatter” built in, but you know me.  I dug out my  Gansai Tambi Gem Colors and added just a bit more Gold.  It’s like Cow Bell, you can never have too much Splatter, haha

  1. Oh my goodness. I waiting for you to color this and now I can try my hand at coloring mine. Can’t wait until you use your zig pens too because that’s what I have in my stash! Over the top amazing Sandi.
