Embossed Vellum Dragonfly Card | Simon Says Stamp

Hi cardmaking friends!

Today’s card combines soft embossed vellum layers, rich purple tones, and shimmering dragonflies for an elegant design with beautiful texture and dimension.  I used the Simon Says Stamp Flourish Dragonfly Duo dies along with the Petal Tipped Labels dies and the Apple Blossoms Embossing Folder to create this dreamy layered card.

The dragonflies were colored with Lindy’s Magicals in Sweet Violet Purple and Hydrangea Blue, giving them that gorgeous pearly shimmer that changes beautifully in the light.  Paired with the embossed vellum overlay and detailed floral background, the finished card feels soft, delicate, and full of movement.

How the create the Embossed Vallum Dragonfly Card | Simon Says Stamp:

Create the Card Base:

Trim a panel of Lilac cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and attach it to the front of a white, top-folding A2-sized card base.

Trim a second panel of Lilac cardstock to 4″ x 5-1/4″ emboss it with the Apple Blossoms Embossing Folder.  Set it aside for now and do not attach it to the card yet.

Create the Embossed Vellum Overlay:

Place the vellum over the lilac embossed panel, and center it.  Place both pieces inside the embossing folder again, carefully lining up the embossed Lilac panel with the embossed design inside the folder.

Slide your finger underneath the lilac panel to hold the vellum in place, while gently removing the cardstock panel.  Emboss the vellum separately.

PRO-TIP – Lining up the vellum in this manner ensures the embossed design will perfectly align with the Lilac background panel during assembly.  Do not emboss both layers together, as the added thickness of the cardstock can cause the vellum to crack and split.Elegant handmade dragonfly card featuring embossed vellum floral layers over a rich purple embossed background with shimmering blue and violet dragonflies created using Lindy’s Magicals in Sweet Violet Purple and Hydrangea Blue.

Create the Dragonflies:

Trim a quarter sheet of watercolor cardstock and lightly spritz it with water.  Sprinkle on Lindy’s Magicals powders in Sweet Violet Purple and Hydrangea Blue, then spritz again to activate the color.

Tilt the panel until the colors blend and flow across the entire surface.  Allow the panel to dry completely before die cutting the dragonflies.

Assemble the dragonflies and add foams squares behind the wings for added lift and dimension.

Assemble the card.

Attach the embossed Lilac panel to the card front using foam tape to create dimension.

Lay the vellum panel into place without adhering it yet.  Arrange and secure the dragonflies, then add a sentiment from the Reverse Just Saying EZ strips using foam squares.

Flip the vellum panel over and add additional foam squares behind the dragonflies and sentiment.  This hides the adhesive so it cannot be seen through the vellum from the front.

Remove the release paper, carefully line up the embossed vellum with the embossed Lilac Panel, and press it into place.

Finish the card with a few Clear Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for a touch of sparkle and shine.

I love how the embossed vellum softens the bold purple background while still allowing all that gorgeous floral texture to peek through.  The Shimmering lindy’s Magicals add just the right amount of elegance to the dragonflies and really make them the star of the card.
