Hey cardmaking friends, welcome back!
Today I’m sharing an Easy Watercolor Embossing Folder Technique using the beautiful new Snowy Footpath Embossing Folder from Altenew.
My original plan was to use it with the Faux Watercolor Technique I shared in last week’s video, but this embossing folder has so much gorgeous detail, that the results turned into a bit of a muddy mess! (I share that in the video). So, since it’s watercolor month, I reached for my watercolor paints instead and created this soft “messy watercolor” look for a beautiful holiday card.
The Best Part? This technique is incredibly easy, and you don’t need any artistic skills. I used just five watercolor paints, and the deep embossing did most of the work for me. As the paint settled into the edged details, it naturally created beautiful shadows and definition. It’s a fun, forgiving technique that’s perfect for beginners and experienced cardmakers alike.
Give it a try – I think you’ll be surprised at just how easy it is!

How to Create the Easy Watercolor Embossing Folder Technique Card:
Create the Card Base:
This is a 5″ x 7″ card, so begin by trimming a piece of white cardstock to 10″ x 7″, and score at 5″ to create a side-folding card base.
Next, trim a panel of dark purple cardstock to 5″ x 7″ and adhere it to the front of the white card base.
Create the Embossed Watercolor Panel:
Trim a panel of watercolor paper to 6″ x 6″ and emboss it using the Altenew Snowy Footpath Embossing Folder.
Using the Altenew Artists’ watercolors, paint the embossed image with a simple wet-on-wet technique, allowing the colors to blend and flow naturally. The deep embossing helps guide the paint into the etched details, creating beautiful definition with very little effort.
Once the panel is completely dry, splatter it with white paint to create the look of falling snow.

Assemble the Card:
Trim the watercolor panel to 3-5/8″ x 5-5/8″. then mat it onto a black cardstock panel cut to 3-7/8″ x 5-7/8″.
Add foam tape to the back of the watercolor panel and attach it to the center of the card base.
Use the Holiday Essentials Die Set to die cut the Happy Holidays sentiment in black and white and attach it to the bottom center of the card.
