Easy Mixed Media Valentine’s Cards

Hi card making friends and welcome back.  Today I have Easy Mixed Media Valentine’s Cards to share with you.  I’m playing with new products from the Simon Says Stamp Kisses release in particular the Painted Heart Wreath background stamp.  The first card also features the new Love You Very Much die.

The Painted Heart Wreath background stamp is made from Rubber with a foam backing.  It’s a solid 6 inch square, but the center section pops out so you can remove the sentiment if you wish.  I used two different techniques to create my cards today showing just how versatile these types of stamps can be.

PS – I’m off to the city early this morning to meet my new oncologist (my favorite one retired), and to receive the results of my CT scans I had done two weeks ago.  It’s so stressful waiting for results so I’m glad the day has arrived.  I have also posted the winner of the Spellbinders Large Die of the Month Die Set at the end of this post for you as promised.  Congratulations to the winner, please send me an email with your mailing address and I’ll get them out to you this week  email  [email protected]

This stamp would also be amazing for a scrapbook page about valentines, or love, or marriage – so many possibilities.

Let’s dive in with card #1 and I’ll walk you through the creative process.  You will also find a PDF Tutorial Download at the end of each set of instructions that you can print off and save for future reference.

How to create the Easy Mixed Media Valentine’s Cards – Card #1

Start with a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of watercolor paper and stamp the image in VersaMark Ink.  Cover with white embossing powder, shake off the excess and heat set.

Next, lay the card front on a protected work surface.  Spritz with water and then with Distress Oxide Ink Sprays in Wilted Violet, Cracked Pistachio and Salvaged Patina.

Then, Pic the piece up to move the inks around until you are happy with the coverage.

Finally, set aside to dry.

Then, use Tear-iffic tape to attach to a top folding A2 sized white card base.

Finally, die cut the Love You Very Much sentiment three times from purple card stock.  Stack then and glue to the inside of the wreath image.  Embellish with Simon’s Stay Gold Sequins.

How to create the Easy Mixed Media Valentine’s Cards – Card #2

Start with a piece of Hammermill White cardstock 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.  Place it inside a Misti Stamping Tool and lay the stamp down with the left side as far over as possible.

Next, use Tombow Markers to color the images and stamp.

PRO-TIP – color small sections at a time so the ink stays wet while you stamp.  Color the second color over the first without cleaning the stamp so the ink blends in a bit.  The stamp is not a solid image, so you will get a very cool watercolor effect by doing this.

Then, once you have stamped the entire wreath, remove it from the Misti and position the center sentiment piece.  Stamp that in the darker blue used on the wreath.

Finally, cover the sentiment section with a cut out circle.  Then mix up the Gansai Tambi Gem Colors (gold and blue), and splatter around the wreath.  Embellish with Stay Gold Sequins from Simon.

I’ve created a downloadable PDF file for you with all the instructions, photo and supply list.  You can save it in your computer or print it off to help you recreate the card.
