I have a new crafting video for you today, but it’s not a card. It’s a Felt Reindeer from Spellbinders Felt Stitch and Create. Spellbinders has released an entire collection of Felt Dies, and today’s introductory video walks you through how to cut the felt and assemble the felt stitching dies. We are making the reindeer today because I want to display him on my holiday-tiered tray. Additional videos for the remaining products will be released over the next couple of weeks, sharing more ideas with you. Some, like the next Pumpkin Video, are a bit “extra”, haha, but you know me! I even have some new color combos for you.
Affiliate links are used throughout this post at no additional cost to you. This allows me to keep bringing you content. Thank you for your support.
As a life long stitcher, (cross stitch and embroidery), I’m super excited about this release and I’m so looking forward to sharing my projects with you. You are going to enjoy the combination of die cutting and stitching and have so much fun creating these adorable home décor and gift projects.

Of note when creating these projects. Use a good quality felt. Spellbinders is now carrying Merino Wool Felt which is excellent quality. I tried die cutting some older non-wool felt I had here, and the holes tore when I tried to stitch it, so it’s worth investing in the good stuff. I have some linked at the end of this post for you.
At the end of today’s video, I have a question. Which bow to put on my little Rudolph? There are 4 choices, I hope you will help me out.
Tips for creating the Felt Reindeer from Spellbinders Felt Stitch & Create.
- Use DMC cotton in coordinating colors to stitch – 3 strands for everything except his eye lashes which are 1 strand of black.
- Nose and Eyes: are glued in with Bearly Art Glue, then I added white highlight stitches to each. This adds interest as well as holds the pieces in place.
- Mouth: – is stitched with three strands of black
- Stuff: Use a very small amount of Polly Fil stuffing. Overstuffing will result in tearing of the felt. You can also use the dies to die cut quilt batting, then cut off the outside stitching line before sandwiching and stitching.
- While working on your projects, I found the Craft Stax Combo Tray Set helpful for corralling all my pieces and threads. I work on more than one project at a time, so being able to add the lid and stack them is really helpful.
- He doesn’t need to be a Rudolf. You can make his nose black and eliminate the Santa hat for a regular reindeer.

Here are some Other Supplies I find helpful for Felt Stitching
Project storage is easy with the Spellbinders Craft Stax. I love the large ones, I pop all my felt pieces in there with the DMC thread and needle and pop the lid on. As I’m usually working on multiple projects at once, the fact that the stack is very handy.
Die Storage: I store all of my dies on magnetic sheets, but for these large sets, try the 8.5″ x 11″ Magnetic Sheets from Lawn Fawn.
