Hi stamping friends and welcome back. I’m using the Hello Lovely from Concord and 9th for my share today.
There is an amazing selection of mediums in our industry to watercolor with and today I chose to use the Nuvo Aqua Flow Pens. All you need are the pens and a water pen/brush to create beautiful water colored cards without a big mess, and if you are travelling, they are perfect to take along. I used the sets Summer Holiday and Winter Skies.
I’ve noticed a trend lately of leaving some of the image in black and white when water coloring. I like it, so I decided to give it a go here.
Colors used for the Hello Lovely Concord and 9th card:
- Flower – Indigo Dawn
- Large Leaves: Aqua Splash and True Turquoise
- Smaller Leaves: Aqua Splash, True Turquoise and Azure Blue
- Background: – watered down Obsidian Black
I black heat embossed my image onto Ranger Distress Watercolor paper, then colored the images. The raised embossed lines provide a dam to keep the watercolor inside the images and allow me to watercolor the background without the colors bleeding into each other.
For the flower, I used just the purple and blended it with my water brush. For the Large leaves I blended the two turquoise blue colors allowing some of the sections of the leaves to stay darker than the other. The smaller leaves are done by adding a bit of the two light turquoise pens, and then just a dot of the dark blue before it dries, allowing it to blend itself. I LOVE how those look.
Finally, I blended out a bit of the black ink with some water, and used it to shadow my background.
For a pop of color I used some Nuvo Crystal Drops in Navy Blue as my final embellishment before adding my White Heat embossed sentiment.
