Hi cardies and welcome to our Hero Arts Global Blog Hop.  We are featuring products from the My Monthly Hero (MMH) release from earlier this the month.  There are so many fabulous products in the MMH and the Add Ons.  I have created one card for each to share with you today.  Then hop along to enjoy the inspiration shared from the rest of our fabulously creative Design Team.

As you hop along, don’t forget to leave a comment on each stop along the way for a change to win a $25.00 gift card donated by the wonderful people at Hero Arts.  The comment deadline is Feb 26th and the winner will be announced on the Hero Arts Blog on Feb 27th – Good luck!

The February My Monthly Hero Kit has a very unique and playful stamp set with coordinating dies inspired by the art of the Surrealist masters and the magical imagery of dreams.  It also includes black watercolor paper, a water brush and a custom Daniel Smith watercolor paint palette which I used to paint my first card.

Under that you will find my second card created with two of the new die sets also released this month, Cloud Window Fancy Die and the Dream Accessories Fancy Dies.

Hero Arts Global Blog Hop and GIVEAWAY – Card #1

I love surrealist art, so this stamp set was so fun to play with.

Start by stamping the stairs and oval door.  Next, create a mask for that and stamp the clouds from the regular door inside the oval

On a separate piece of cardstock, stamp the rain dripping image.

Color them all with Copic Markers and cut them out.  Cut off the top portion of the water with the moon and attach the bottom piece to the back of the stairs.

SKY:  B000, Bo1, BG45, BG53 – EYE:  E33, B1, BG53 – STEPS:  N1, N2, N3, N4 – CLOUDS:  V12, V15, V17 – STARS:  Y11, Y15 – WATER:  B1, BG53, B24, B37, B97

Finally, watercolor the background using the Daniel Smith Watercolor Paint Palette.  When dry, cut it with the Waffle Flowers Deckled Frames Die and attach it to a black card base.

Die cut a moon and added 4 layers of gold embossing powder and white heat embossed the sentiment on black.

Use foam squares to attach all the elements to the card and then add the EYE – to the center of the sky in the door.

Hero Arts Global Blog Hop Card #2

Next Up I had a ton of fun with a couple of the new Die sets from this release, the Cloud Window Fancy Die which creates the beautiful cloud border around my card.  The Dream Accessories Fancy dies is where the whale came from (check out the detail in him), this set also includes a ship, a cloud die (used on my card), and the moon.

Blend the card front with Reactive Inks in Thistle, Blue Hawaii, Key Lime Fizz and Lemon Drop

Splatter the piece with white and gold ink and set aside to try.

Next, die cut out the cloud card front twice and stack.  Without reinking the blue blending brush brush, add a small amount of blue ink.

Attach the piece over the card front with liquid glue.

Die cut the moon and clouds three times each.  Stack them. Color the moon with Copics:  Y11, Y15, Y19.  Sponge blue ink on the bottom of the clouds and yellow on the top of the clouds.

Creating the Whale:

This die cut whale is so fabulous.  His beautiful detail is embedded into him when you die cut.  So all you have to do is color him.

Cut the whale 3 times and stack.  Color him with copic markers:
Blues:  B34, B97, B99, B37  Gray:  N0, N1, N3, N4

TIP – I colored the layers twice to really saturate the paper and it helped to blend the dark colors better.

Once he was dry, I mixed some white paint onto an acrylic block used the wooden end of my paint brush to add white dots down his back and on his fins.

Attach all the pieces with foam squares to pop them up a bit.

Finally, white heat emboss the sentiments from the Dream Messages stamp set onto black card and cut one out to attach to the card.

Embellish with the stars in the Champagne Sequin Mix and the Sands of Tim Gem mix from Picket Fence Studios.

  1. Hi, Sandi – I just LOVE both of your cards shown in this hop. I especially love the one that is Surrealist in nature. The whale went over “swimmingly” as well. (Sorry, Erica stole my “whaley” pun.) I think your talent is just magnificent and I’m thankful that I have folks like you to look to for ideas.
