New Card Making Video – Easy Watercolor Die Cuts for Cards

In today’s card making video I’m sharing a fun and easy watercolor technique that ANYONE can create.  I’m using Lindy’s Magicals and Nuvo Shimmer Powders to create messy watercolor sheets.  From these beautiful canvases we will be cutting our flowers and leaves.  The pieces are vibrant and have a beautiful shimmer from the mica pigment in these powders thus creating FABULOUS flowers.  My samples are layered onto Gold Glimmer Foiled Backgrounds but step outside your comfort zone and audition other colors too.

How to create the Easy Watercolor Die Cuts for Cards

Start with a white A2 sized card base, 4-1/4″ x 11, Score and fold at 5-1/2″.  Over that, attach a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of black cardstock.

Next, using the Petal Harmony Hot Foil Plate and Matte Gold Foil, foil the design onto a piece of 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ black cardstock.  Trim down to 4″ x 5-1/4″ by cutting around the outside edge of the design and then attaching to the center of the card front.

While you have the foiling machine warmed up, use the Celebration Sentiments Betterpress plates and dies to hot foil the sentiments onto black cardstock. Yes, you can hot foil with BetterPress Plates.

PRO-TIP – when doing sentiments, I foil them all and cut them all out.  This saves on work, foil and cardstock, plus you have spares for the next few cards you make.

Then, using Canson 140 lb watercolor paper, create the turquoise and green watercolor paper using Lindy’s Magicals and Nuvo Shimmer Powders as shown in the video (below).

Once the panels are dry, die cut the pieces needed for the flower and the leaves using the Pink Star Tulip Die Set.

Easy Watercolor Die Cuts for Cards – Putting it together.

Start by using the legend on the back of the Pamphlet that comes with the dies to determine where the small overlay pieces need to be glued (also shown in video).

Next, use the Key Hole System to build the flower.

Then, glue the leaves onto the back of the flower.

Finally, attach the flower to the card base.  Place the card inside a splat box and splatter with gold paint.

Then add the sentiment.

  1. Sandi, I really enjoyed the video, well done! I’m wondering what brand of black cardstock you were using? I didn’t see it listed in either the blog or video description. I have such a hard time foiling on black cardstock, so I’m always looking for recommendations. Loved the Lindy’s tutorial too, thank you!

    1. Hi Liz, I’m pretty sure it was Simon Says Stamp Black, that’s pretty much the only black I use. It’s nice and thick so you will love it and it foils beautifully
