Spellbinders BEE Stitched

Hi card making friends and welcome back.  I have circled back around to the Club Kits for January and the Spellbinders BEE Stitched.  This month’s stitched club creates this adorable (and very big) BEE.  He is super easy to stitch, although his wings do take a bit, LOL, especially with the metallic gold thread, but he is worth it.

Once I had him all put together, it was time to decide on the card base.  I knew I wanted to carry on the color pallet of the yellow and black.  I also wanted layers of interest and texture, so, I cut the yellow background with the Notched Corner Frame dies, then embossed it with the Branching Out Embossing Folder.  Over that I added a circle of vellum, and repeating the metallic gold in the wings. I cut the floral pieces in Brushed Gold.  This not only added layers of interest to my card, it helped to frame the star of the show, my little bee.

How to create the Spellbinders BEE Stitched Card.

Start with a top folding A2 sized white card base, 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored and folded at 4’1/4″

Next, add a black card front, 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.  Onto that, add the yellow piece die cut with the Notched Corner Frame Die, and embossed with the Branching Out embossing folder.

Spellbinders BEE Stitched – Framing the Bee.

Start by cutting a vellum circle, as big as you can without exceeding the yellow border.

Next, die cut the floral pieces in Brushed Gold and glue them around the edge of the vellum with some of the leaves hanging off.

PRO-TIP – Line up the top and bottom, don’t worry about the gap in the sides, as the bees wings cover it.

Then, add small pieces of foam tape behind the leaves and flowers on the vellum (adhesives shows through vellum), and attach to the center of the card.

Finally, add the bee, again using foam squares.

Bee Making Tips:

adding ink blending to the edges of the bee pieces

Once you have the bee pieces cut out.  Add a little ink blending around the edges of the yellow pieces with the Wild Honey Distress Oxide Ink.

This adds roundness and depth to the image.

All the stitched pieces for the Bee

For the Bees wings, cut from Hammermill white cardstock then stitch with the Gold Metallic Tread.

Next, for the black bee body, use DMC #725 yellow thread to stitch.

Then, for the yellow bee parts, use black #310 DMC Cotton.

Finally, glue all the pieces together and place a couple of large acrylic handles over the bee so he dries flat.
