Spellbinders Home Sweet Quilts

Hey card making friends and welcome back.  Today I’m playing with the new Spellbinders Home Sweet Quilts release and I have 3 cards to share with you.  This is part of the NEW Release over at Spellbinders – the Home Sweet Quilts Collection by Becca Feeken.

Today’s cards are another project great for cleaning out your scrap bin.  So dig deep and come up with some color combos.  My color combo is on the cool side with deep Cosmic Sky Blue, pale Raindrop blue and Purple Mist cardstock from Spellbinders.  I really like this color combo, they are almost jewel tons, but a lighter version.  Again, you need NO CARDMAKING SKILLS to create these cards – they are all die cut and so easy.  So let’s jump in shall we.

You will note when you start to cut these out that you end up with a pile of extra pieces.  So for the first two square cards, I simply changed out where the colors where so I could use up many of the pieces.  I could have made a third card, but I ran out of time.

Also, upon completion of the first two quilts, I placed them inside the coordinating Orange Peel Quilt Embossing Folder and embossed them.  This creates the illusion that they are in fact quilted.  Something I love to do with quilt image cards.  For the second card, as many of the pieces are filigree cut, I did not do that, as they resemble a hand stitched quilt all on their own.

How to Create the Spellbinders Home Sweet Quilts Square Cards:

Start, by die cutting all the pieces from 3 shades of cardstock.  Glue the outline to a 4-1/4 square piece of cardstock and then glue in all the pieces.

Next, spritz the quilt front and back with water, place inside the Orange Peel Quilt Embossing Folder and run through the die cutting machine a couple of times.

PRO-TIP – you are embossing two layers of paper.  By spritzing with water you help to break down the fibers so they bend easier and by running it through the die cutting machine a couple of times, you are ensuring a nice deep embossed image.

Then, cut a 4-3/4″ square card front out of one of the colors and attach it to a top folding square white card base.  4-3/4″ x 9-1/2″ score and fold at 4-3/4″

Finally, die cut florals using the Be Bold Blooms and Sealed Leaf Sprigs Dies and embellish the card front.

Then, using the coordinating Quilty Hugs Sentiments Stamp set – add sentiments to both cards.

How to create Spellbinders Home Sweet Quilts Card #2

Start by again die cutting all the pieces.  You require one layer of filigree for all the colors, and one layer of light blue plain for the 4 corner pieces.  There are dies for both including in the kit.  If you don’t like the filigree, there is an alternative stitched edge die in the kit you can use instead. (shown in the top and bottom strips on my card).

Next, cut a 4-1/8″ square from what ever color you want to show through the Filigree pieces – mine is white.

Then, flip the outline over and from the back, tape in the light blue center filigree pieces, the white triangles and solid light blue triangles in the corners.

Flip it back over and glue it to the solid white square you cut.  Trim any white showing.

Finally, glue the purple triangles over the blue solid corner pieces.  Die cut the small purple star for the center and glue down with two white flowers over the center.

Then, die cut stitched solid pieces for the top and bottom in the light blue and purple.

To finish the card:

Start by cutting a white card base 7″ x 10″, score and fold at 5″ to create a 5″ x 7″ card base.

Next, to that, glue down a 5″ x 7″ piece of Cosmic Sky (dark Blue) to cover the card front.

Then, glue down your quilt to the center of the card front.

Finally, glue the solid image pieces at the top and bottom to balance out the card before attaching the sentiment at the bottom.

These were super fun to create and I’m looking forward to playing with them again and creating more in some soft summer colors – orange, yellow and red perhaps?  with a warm tan color highlight – that might be pretty.

  1. I LOVE them! The blues and purples are stunning together. What I really love though is how you embossed two of the panels with that folder. What a fabulous idea! Beautiful cards Sandi, isn’t it a pretty collection and as always, your cards are fabulous!
