Hey, card-making friends, welcome back. Today, I have a couple of Spellbinders Slimline Christmas Cards to share with you.
Back in July, the magazine Scrapbook & Cards Today approached me to create two cards for their fall and winter magazines. I was so honored to be asked. Fast-forward a couple of months, and the magazine is out. The appropriate time has passed, allowing me to share those cards with you.

It’s always fun to be published and Scrapbook & Cards was kind enough send me a copy of the magazine. If you have the Fall/Winter 2024 edition, I’m on page 32. I had to send the cards in super early as they work well ahead, so below is my best recollection of how these cards came together, LOL. This is going to be a test of my poor old brain.
This was a sketch challenge and the sketch is also on the page. For the first card, I followed the sketch: poinsettias and greenery in opposing corners, scallops around the edge with the sentiment in the center. For the second card, I flipped the sketch on it’s side and added these adorable die cut cardinals perched on snow-covered branches. The embossing folders add deep background texture and the teal and red color combo give them a modern flair.
Spellbinders Slimline Christmas Cards Card #1.
Start with a white card base, 7″ x 8-1/2″, score and fold at 3-1/2″.
Next, cut another piece of white cardstock 3-1/2″ x 8- 1/2″ and die cut with the Slimline scalloped dies.
Then, a third piece of white, also 3-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, trim 1/4″ off for good measure. Place inside the Pine Cones and Berries Embossing Folder and emboss.
Using Blending brushes, add Distress Oxide Inks in Evergreen Bough and Broken China to the background. Splatter with white paint and then attach to the card front. over that, using foam strips, attach the scalloped border.
Spellbinders Slimline Christmas Cards – Die cutting.
Start by using the Skating Into the Holidays Dies to die cut the poinsettia and foliage from cardstock colors: Waterfall, Phone Booth, Mint and Blue Spruce. Ink blend the poinsettia with Broken China ink and the wide leaves with evergreen bough before gluing them all down in the top left and bottom right of the card. I stacked them in tight and layered them with foam squares to add dimension and interest.
Finally, add some holiday sparkle with some Crystal Stickles on the berries and flower centers.
The sentiments are gold heat embossed onto Phone Booth Red card stock using the Christmas Magic Clear Stamp and Die set.
Spellbinders Slimline Christmas Cards – Card 2
Start with the card base and card front all the same as card #1.
Next, use the Hexi Snowflake Embossing Folder from the July 2024 Club to emboss the background card stock in Mint, and then sprayed with the Frosty Mint Distress Mica Stain. Splatter with white acrylic paint before attaching to the card base. Again, use foam strips to attach the white scalloped border.
Then, die cut the art pieces using the Snowcapped Holidays Die set. Cardstock used: Hammermill white, Mint, Phone Booth, Blue Spruce, Waterfall, Chamomile, and Portabella.
Finally, ink blend the pieces to add dimension, glue them together before adding some Distress Texture Paste and Distress Rock Candy to create the snow. I tried to use a palette knife for this, but ended up using my finger, LOL The combination of the two makes great snow.
I use White Opal Liquid Pearls to outline the pinecones and then added a bit of Crystal Stickles to them.
Gold heat emboss the sentiments in gold on white cardstock using the Christmas Magic Clear Stamp and Die Set.
I really love the layers of textures on these cards along with the teal and red color combo. If you would like more information on SLIMLINE CARDS, I have a entire page dedicated to them here, with TONS of inspiration.
