Tim Holtz Halloween Cards

Hey card making friends, welcome back.  I have had so many work commitments lately that there has been no time to play. That’s making me cranky, so yesterday was a PLAY DAY.  I grabbed all the Tim Holtz Halloween Dies I keep buying and had some fun.  That means today, I have 3 Tim Holtz Halloween Cards to share with you.  I can’t resist Tim’s dies, and every time I watch one of his lives, I’m in there buying (I’m sure you can relate, haha). .  Hope you like them.

Tim Holtz Halloween Cards Intro

I used quite a few different die sets, so I have listed the products I used under each of the images for you, and then added all the thumbnails at the end of the post where you can purchase them.

three hand made Halloween cards with die cut witches, pumpkins, bats and birds

All of the backgrounds are ink blended with Distress Oxide Inks then splattered with black and white paint, just because I really like that look.  If you don’t, then leave off the splatter, the Halloween cards still look great without it.

Tim Holtz Halloween Cards – Card #1

Products used:

Start with a white card front cut to 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Lay the Shatter Stencil #THS014 over it, and ink blend the piece with Distress Oxide Inks in Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Peacock Feathers and Villainous Potion inks..

Next,  use Tim’s Distress Tool to shaggy up the edges before placing it inside the Splat box and splatting with white and black ink.

Then, while the ink is drying, made a A2 sized white card base, 4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″. Over that attach a black card front cut at 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.

Finally, die cut the pieces, ink blended them, glued them together and attach to the card.

Tim Holtz Halloween Cards – Card #2

Products Used:

Start by ink blending the 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ white card front with Distress Oxide Inks in Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry and Villainous Potion. Place in the Splat Box, and splatter with black and white ink.  Once dry, attach to a top folding A2 white card base.  4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″.

Next, die cut all the silhouette pieces 3 times and layer them.

Finally, using the fine tip of the Bearly Art Glue, glue all the pieces onto the card front.

Card #3 – Not really a Halloween Card.

Products Used:

For this one, I took inspiration for a card I saw on the Sizzix website a while back, and it was the reason I purchased this #666566 Vault Lovebirds set of dies.  I have changed mine up quite a bit from the original and decided to use Halloween pattern paper on my bird.

Start by using a circle die to cut a mask the same size as the medium Moon Mask.  Cover the center of the card with the round mask and then use Distress Oxide Inks in Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Blueprint Sketch to create the background.

Next, peel the mask away, and cover the circle with the reverse mask, so you have a hole opening above where the moon will go.  Ink blend a light coat of Pumice Stone to create a base, then place the moon mask over the hole and ink blend again with Pumice Stone.  This makes a silvery looking moon with the craters showing.

Then, use the Curiosity word stamp from Top Hats and stamp with Hickory Smoke Archival Ink to add a bit of background noise.  Take the dots die from Mr. Rabbit, and also stamp that twice with the same ink.  Then, place the piece into the splat box and splatter it with black and white paint.

While the card front is drying, cut the bird and branch 3 times from black cardstock and layer together.  Using the bird die again, cut a selection of small pieces from the Unity Stamps Haunted Hues Paper Pack (I LOVE THIS PAPER), glue the pieces down on the bird until he is completely covered.

Finally, attach the card front to a top folding A2 white card base cut at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, score and fold at 4-1/4″.  Attach the branch and then the bird.

I guess you did have a lot of fun!

  2. Hi, Sandi –
All of these are fantastic! It’s hard for me to choose a fave but I guess the “boo” would be it with “Wicked” as a close second. The backgrounds are amazing.
