Tonic Studios Shoot for the Moon

Hello my craft friends, I hope you are doing well and having a great week and looking forward to a fabulous weekend too.  Today I’m sharing two Slimline Cards created with the Tonic Studios Shoot for the Moon Stamp and Die set which is being re-released today.  I  think they both make great masculine birthday cards which I never seem to have enough of, probably because I like coloring flowers, haha.

Today I’m excited to be part of this fun blog hop with Tonic Studios to announce the release of the NEW SHOOT FOR THE STARS Stamp and Die bundle.

You have probably arrived from my fabulously creative friend Maria Willis’s blog so you are on the right track.  If you get lost, I have the list of participants below for you along with the giveaway details near the end of this post as well.

Unfortunately, my package from Tonic is still out there in postal land, so I’m sharing a couple of cards today created with the Shoot for the Moon Stamp set.  It coordinates beautifully with the Shoot for the Stars Set.  It originally debuted in December and was so popular it sold out immediately.  I’m happy to report it is now back in stock.

Both the stamps and dies come in high-quality plastic sleeves, that are compatible to work with A5 ring binders.  A great storage solution.  The binders come in Orange or Blue

Details for the Tonic Studios Shoot for the Moon Cards:

Both my cards are Slimline Cards.  I’m loving the additional real estate these cards provide and the size was perfect for stacking the mountain and tree dies in this set.

Want to learn more about Slimline Cards?  I have a special page dedicated to them – How to make a Slimline Card.

Create the background by blending Mermaid Lagoon Distress oxide Ink over a light blue 3-1/4 x 8-1/4″ card base.  Splatter with white paint and let dry.

Meanwhile, use the two mountain dies and cut each out of purple card, one dark, one medium.

Next, cut the tree die from black card stock.

Attach them to the blue card front, then flip over and trim them from the back.

Place this piece into the Misti and stamp and white heat emboss the sentiment on the middle mountain

At the same time, heat emboss the other sentiment on a scrap of black cardstock and trim it.

Create the Moon:

The moon stamp in this set is my all time favorite, it’s so very cool.

Use a light gray card and place it into your Misti.

First stamp it in Pumice Stone Distress Oxide Ink, then add Hickory Smoke Distress oxide ink, just around the edge of the moon and stamp it again.

It’s so simple and it looks so real.

Use the circle die to cut out the moon and then attach it to the card base, with the right side hanging off a bit. Card base is 7 x 8-1/2, scored and folded at 3-1/2.

Flip it over and trim flush.

Finally, attach the card front to the card base.

To embellish:

Use the stars die to cut stars out of silver glimmer paper and attach with Bearly glue.

Tonic Studios Shoot for the Moon Card #2

I went a little crazy with this one and created a Northern Lights background using Fine Tec Pearlescent water colors on black watercolor paper….the picture doesn’t do it justice.

Do the wet on wet technique, wet the paper with a large brush, then start adding the Fine Tec colors and let them blend.  I used the Dark Gold, the teal and the purple on the card.

When the paint is dry, mix up some white Gouache and splatter the sky to look like stars.

Create the moon in the same manner as the card above. I added some Glimmer Paste to it for a moon glow.

Cut one mountain from White Glimmer paper and then the trees from Black card.

Leave enough space at the bottom of the trees to white heat emboss the sentiment.

Attach all three of the elements to the card base, flip over and trim from the back and then attach to a side folding 3-1/2 x 8-1/2 white card base.

For both of my cards today, you could opt out of the moon and add one of the beautiful stars, just to change it up a bit.

  1. I love both cards but the second one … holy moly!!!! Stunning!!!
Sorry I have missed a few posts. This moving business took more time and energy than I anticipated!!!

    1. Oh my goodness, tell me about it, I’m still unpacking boxes, it’s insane. While downsizing may be a good idea, it’s a lot of work

  2. Sandi, I love your cards and since I haven’t seen them before they are still perfect! Serendipitously, my favorite stamp in the Shoot for the Stars bundle just happens to be the moon so I enjoyed your description of how to stamp the larger moon in last months bundle, which just happens to still be available (insert wicked laugh here). I also love your night sky in the second card and I’m going to try it, the picture may not do it justice, but it does enough justice to make me want to try to get the same result! In fact, I have been tempted, but not yet pulled the trigger on buying black water color paper but you’ve put me over the hump (to mix my metaphors….). Looking forward to your package arriving! (Have I mentioned my favorite stamp is the moon? No pressure.) 🙂

    1. haha, thanks Mary. I know what you mean, the moon is just too cool and I’m so glad they rereleased this set.
You will love black watercolor paper, it rocks and the pigments look so fabulous on it. Have fun

  3. These are out of this world and the northern light effect is to die for…. How do you always manage to awe me?

  4. Love this release! It is so hard to find a realistic moon, and this one is just great. Can’t wait to try it with my Lavinia stamps!

  5. Wow, love the gorgeous slimline moonlit scene and the spectacular background on the second card. So dramatic!

  6. I had no idea that Tonic Studios has such amazing dies and stamps before. I only knew about their Nuvo drops and glazes. The DT is coming up with the most beautiful starry projects and I LOVE your background.

    1. thank you Shartl, yes, they have amazing stamps and dies, you just have to get them fast because they sell out quickly.

  7. Mary Holshouser
