Spellbinders October Glimmer and BetterPress cards

Hi cardmaking friends.  Today I’m sharing Spellbinders October Glimmer and BetterPress Cards.  There are 4 cards to share and I’m combining their posts because I have so much to share with you this month, LOL.  I have also included the Sealed For Christmas products on some of the cards.  Adding the wax seal was a fun way to add the sentiments to the BetterPress cards.

Can you Heat Emboss with the Spellbinders BetterPress Machine?

I did something a little different with the BetterPress plate this month.  I wanted to see if I could heat emboss with it.  And you can.  When pressing, I inked it with Embossing Ink.  My backgrounds are some I made previously with Lindy’s Magicals, and I made sure I brushed them with the anti static tool before I pressed.  Then, once pressed, I covered the piece with gold embossing powder, shook off the excess and heat set.  I did have to use all three of the plastic shims that came with the BetterPress Kit – and one cardboard shim.

Start with 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of watercolor paper that has been colored with Lindy’s Magical Powders.

Tape to the acrylic top of the BetterPress plate and brush with the anti-static brush.

Next, place the Continued Joy, October BetterPress Kit of the month for October in the center of the base plate.

Then, ink it completely with the Embossing Ink Pad.

Finally, Press the image, cover with gold embossing powder, shake off the excess and heat set.  Cut them down with the

Start with the new Sealed For Christmas wax and Seals that came out in September with all the new holiday seals.

Next, pick some of the new colors of wax to match your cards and melt them down and press them

Finally, use the gold pen to highlight the sentiment.

Sealed for Christmas Joy Seal.

Use the beautiful new diamond Joy Seal and the new Twilight Purple wax to create this seal.

PRO-TIP – this seal is a bit bigger and to get nice even edges, I had to use 4 of the wax pieces.

Sealed for Christmas – HOLIDAY 3 Pack

For the peach card, start with the Coral colored wax.  this seal says “Joy to the World” and is from the 3 Pack Wax Seal Stamp – Holiday from the Sealed for Christmas Collection.

Next, highlight the sentiment with the gold pen.

Finally.  All three cards have been cut down with the Essential Arches dies, a dry embossed background using the October Embossing Folder and 3D Embossing Folder Club folders.  Also, all three have been wrapped with the Gold DMC Thread that Spellbinders now carries, and that I love a lot!  Finally, I embellished the trees with the small gems from the Gold Mix Color Essential Gems.

Spellbinders October Glimmer and BetterPress cards – Glimmer Foiled Card

Start by using Polished Brass foil to Glimmer Hot Foil the Bouquet Full of Joy plate from the October Glimmer of the Month Kit.

Next, use copic markers to color the image:
Pinks:  R81, R83, R85, Greens:  G21, G24, G28.

Then, use the Essential Arches dies to cut out the image.

Finally, create the card base with an A2 sized top folding white base.  To that, add a 401/4″ x 5-1/2″ card front in Blue Spruce that has been embossed with the Christmas Tile Embossing Folder.  Use foam tape to attach the art piece to the card front, overlay with the bow and sentiment also Glimmer Foiled.

Phew, that’s it, that’s my 4 cards to share today.  I was overjoyed to discover that heat embossing could be achieved with the Betterpress System, and I’ll be doing that again soon.

Stay tuned, I have 3 more Christmas cards coming your way next post using more products from the Sealed for Christmas Release.

  1. Elegant cards, Sandi. I love the use of the arches and a foam tape to set them off from the backgrounds. Really makes stunning cards.

  2. Wow! Love the embossed cards! It is so fun to see people stretch their supplies and do something new. I have gotten several of the Better Press plates to use with my Glimmer Hot Foil system and they turn out as well as if they were done with standard hot foil plates.
