Elegant Framed Harvest Heirloom Mixed Media Card

There are so many wonderful new products in the Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember ® release that it’s almost impossible to pick a favorite!  So instead, each morning I go through the box and choose my  “favorite of the day” – and today, Harvest Heirloom won!

Now,  you know I’m not a huge fan of traditional yellows and oranges for fall and Halloween cards, so I went off the rails again.  This time,  I chose a fresh combination of mint and coral with bold black accents, and I LOVE how it turned out!

Mint green and coral Harvest Heirloom birthday card featuring an embossed Pumpkin Wreath background, black leafy accents, white flowers, and a framed Happy Birthday sentiment.

Once I embossed the background with the Pumpkin Wreath Embossing Folder, I decided the gourd needed some texture too, so I embossed it with the same folder.  A few light swipes of white pigment ink over both embossed surfaces, highlighting all that beautiful detail, took the design exactly where I wanted it to go.

The leafy black stems echo the twig wreath embossed in the background, repeating that element and giving the card a cohesive look without making it too busy.  Finally, I added the little white flowers as bright highlights – they really make everything pop.

How to create the Harvest Heirloom Mixed Media Card:

Create the Card Base:

Trim a panel of Mint Cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, emboss it with the Pumpkin Wreath Embossing Folder.  Attach it to a top-folding, A2-sized White card base.  Lightly swipe a white pigment ink pad across the surface a few times to highlight the beautiful embossed detail, then set it aside to dry.

Next, use the third- and fifth-largest A2 Notched Rectangles to cut three frames.  Stack and glue the frames together for added dimension, then adhere them to the front of the card.

Create the Gourd and branches.

Die-cut the Gourd from Coral Cardstock and emboss it with the Pumpkin Wreath Embossing Folder.  Lightly swipe the white pigment ink pad across the raised details to highlight the texture, then set it aside to dry.

Die-cut the remaining branches, stems, and leaves from black cardstock.  Use the small flower dies from the Country Basket Bouquet Die set to cut the flowers from white and black cardstock.

Assemble the Card:

Use foam squares to attach the embossed gourd near the bottom center of the card.

Overlay the black stems, branches, and leaves around and over the gourd, then embellish the arrangement with five of the small white and black flowers.

Finally, white-heat emboss the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Golden Sunflower stamp and die set onto black cardstock.  Cut it out with the coordinating die and attach it near the top-right of the card.

Finish the design with a few black Pawsitively Dazzling Gems for a little extra shine and contrast.

  1. Fabulous! Love all the embossing, very clever, and the frame is
perfect to show it all off! Of course, the colours are terrific!
