Creative Card Matting with Squarevel Dies

Today I’m sharing another card created with the Simon Says Stamp Sunflower Basket and Squarevel Dies, this time giving those beautiful sunflowers a more traditional golden-yellow finish.  Since I’ve already shared how I created the sunflower Basket in a previous post, today I’m focusing on the unique card mat created with the Squarevel Nested Dies.  I love how that bold black shape adds a modern touch to the design and really makes those warm fall colors pop!

The Squarevel Nested Dies are such a fun alternative to traditional square or rectangle mats.  That beautiful curved edge adds instant interest to a card design while still leaving plenty of room for a larger focal point, like the Sunflower Basket I used here.  Try layering two or three Squarevel die cuts in coordinating or contrasting colors to create a bold dimensional frame, or offset the layers slightly for an entirely different look.

You can also use the largest Squarevel die to create a shaped card base, giving the whole card that unique curved silhouette.  And because the set is nested, you can mix and match the different sizes for frames, background panels, sentiment layers, or even smaller focal points.  It’s one of those versatile die sets that can completely change the look of a card simply by changing how you layer it.
