Altenew Baroque Elegance BetterPress Plate

Hey card making friends.  I’m swinging back to the April release from Altenew and sharing a project created with the Altenew Baroque Elegance BetterPress Plate.  I completely forgot to share this card and plate and I was working on the June release for Spellbinders, I actually dug it out again and used it to Emboss a background for a card (sneak peek at the end of this post).  Yep, you can not only foil with BetterPress Plates, you can also emboss with them – Cool right?.

Altenew Baroque Elegance BetterPress Plate intro

The BetterPress Plate is very simple to use and it “presses” ink and image into your paper for you.  From there, you decided what you want to do with the panel.  If I’m doing a solid color press, such as black, I like to color up my background first to add more interest.  It only takes a few more minutes and it yields fabulous results.  Maybe, like me, you have a stash of backgrounds that you can dig through, or create as you go.

For today’s card, I used watercolor paper and Nuvo Shimmer Powders in Falling Leaves and Green Parade.  It makes a beautiful dark combo.

How to create the Altenew Baroque Elegance BetterPress Plate card.

  • As I stated above, start with a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of watercolor paper (I like Canson and it’s linked below).  Place it on a protected work surface, spritz with water and then add the Falling Leaves and Green Parade Nuvo Shimmer Powders.  Spritz again to dilute the pigment and move the paper around until the entire surface is covered.  I’m impatient, so I use my heat tool to dry it, if it curls, heat the back and it will flatten out.
  • Next, attach the card front to the top clear panel of your BetterPress System.  Place the Baroque Elegance BetterPress Plate onto the top of the BetterPress, lining up the A2 sized box.  Ink the plate with the Black BetterPress ink.

Pro-TIP – when you ink, lightly tap up and down, with a little twist on contact.  BetterPress plates are very detailed, the little twist helps to get the ink into all the nooks and crannies.

  • Finally, place the clear plate on top, lining up the magnets and run it through the Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine.  This will impress the ink and the design into your paper.
  • Mount the art piece to a top folding A2 sized white card base.  4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″.

Adding the sentiment and overlay:

I like elements on my cards to repeat, or match so I went looking for something to add an overlay to this card.  I decided on one of the die cuts from the Zero Waste Field of Flowers Die (watch for an upcoming post).  It had a similar “feel” to the background design and I cut it in Matte Gold card stock for a silhouette overlay and to match the matte gold shadow die of my sentiment.

  • Next, using the Timeless Sentiments 2 dies, cut the words in black and the shadow in gold.  Stack them together and attach to the bottom of the card with foam squares.  It’s a tight fit, but it does fit.  PS, this is an amazing sentiment set, totally love it.
  • Finally, when you cut out the Zero Waste Field of Flowers images, you also get a bunch of different sized circles, not wanting to waste those pretty little things, I used them as my embellishment on the card.
  • The recipient of this card was a male friend and I really liked how the background came out.  It’s strong and earthy, the sentiment is large and the floral design is minimalistic, making for a perfect masculine card (in my humble opinion, haha).

You can watch THIS VIDEO over on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL on how to use the BetterPress Plate, and I have more coming soon.

As promised, here is a partial image of how I used this plate and embossed a background for an upcoming card (sorry, can’t show you the entire card yet), it turned out beautifully and I’m so happy I figured out I can use my plates 3 ways now.  What’s NEXT, haha
