Hey card making friends. Today I’m sharing 3 Big Hugs Hand Made Birthday Cards. This fun BIG HUGS stamp and die set is another from Simon Hurley and I decided to use his stencils for the backgrounds on each of the cards as well. Check out the card making instructions below to craft along with me.
And check out the end of this post for a FABULOUS BOGO SALE from SPELLBINDERS

So, fun story. I was rooting around in my studio yesterday looking for something I misplaced. I pulled out this big bin of stuff, and inside were all these cards, stamps and dies that I made months ago, and forgot to share. I was so happy because I really needed some birthday cards, haha. Just looking at these cards makes me happy because I had so much fun building them, but also, they are so bright and happy. They were super simple to make, just took a bit of time. I hope you will stamp along with me.
Products Used:
- Simon Hurley Big Hugs Stamp Set
- Big Hugs Stamp and Die Set
- Polka Dot Assortment Stencil
- In Bloom Stencil
- Happy Hearts Stencil
Big Hugs Hand Made Birthday Cards:
I really did have a blast making these. It started with the coloring. I stamped them in black copic friendly ink. Next, I colored them with copic Markers:
Y11, Y15, Y19, RV17, RV19, RV55, N0, N1, N3, N4, BG11, BG13, BG49, YG03, YG17, YG67, R20, R21, E21, R24, R29, E23, E5.
Next, I cut them out with the coordinating dies. I added some white accents with a #10 gel pen and then set them aside.
Big Hugs Hand Made Birthday Cards Card #1 – my favorite.
Start by coloring the bear. Stamp him in Black, so you just need to add some gray shadows down the sides with the N0 – N1 markers. Add some color to his cheeks with the E21, and color his tongue with the reds.
Next, stamp, color and cut out the party favors….I did the drink green because I love Margaritas.
Then, white heat emboss a sentiment onto a scrap of black cardstock.
Finally, on a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of white cardstock, use the Polka Dots layering stencil, and two shades of Pawsitively Saturated Inks, in a light and dark of teal and pink, stencil the background. Attach it to a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Waterfall cardstock and then attach it to a top folding A2 sized white cards base, 4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″. Use foam squares to attach the bear and his party paraphernalia.
Big Hugs Hand Made Birthday Cards Card #2
The sizes and steps for card 2 are basically the same as card 1.
Start by coloring in the pug, this time, add N3 and N4 for a darker gray on his body. Color the rest of the party gear and cut it all out with the dies.
Next, pick a light and dark ink pad in a rainbow, yellow, green, teal, pink and purple, from Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Inks. Using the In Bloom layered stencils, create a rainbow background on a 4″x 5-1/4″ piece of white cardstock. Attach that to a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of yellow cardstock and then the white A2 card base. White heat emboss a sentiment on black cardstock.
Then, use foam tape to attach the pug, the sentiment and then the rest of the party goodies.
Big Hugs Hand Made Birthday Cards Card #3
Again, all pieces and measurements are the same as the previous two cards, this time with the cat.
Stencil the background with the Happy Hearts Stencil, the large heart with a darker teal ink, and the smaller hearts with stickles.
Hope you enjoyed today’s cards. These would be really fun projects to make with your kids, they would have so much fun coloring and stenciling.
