We’ve been talking a lot about color lately, so today I thought I would change things with a minimal color cardmaking idea using maximum texture and featuring a handful of Simon Says Stamp products, mostly from the In My Heart release.
For this card, I wanted to stick to as few colors as possible. But when you repeat one color across different elements and add layers of texture, the design feels much more detailed than it really is. I’ve also noticed torn edges sneaking back into style again, and as a blast from the past that I absolutely love, I had to incorporate that here too.
To build interest, I added “background noise” with soft ink blending, then stamped the Nature In Bloom word background stamp in the same color for a subtle tone-on-tone effect. I repeated Audrey Blue in the die-cut sentiment, flower stems, and leaves, then masked and ink blended the card front to pull everything together.
Let’s jump in, and I’ll walk you through the steps.

How to create the Minimal Colors, Maximum Texture | Simon Says Stamp Card:
Create the Card Base:
Trim a panel of white cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and die cut it with the Crimped A2 Rectangles die. Measure that panel, and trim a second one. Mine measured 3-5/8″ x 4-7/8 – just slightly under on both measurements.
Ink blend the second panel using Simon Says Stamp Dew Ink, then place it into your Misti and stamp it with the Nature In Bloom Stamp using the same ink for a subtle tone-on-tone effect.
For the crimped panel, mask off the crimping on the side and bottom using Best Ever Craft Tape.
PRO-TIP – Stick the tape to your clothing first, so it picks up a few fibers before attaching it to the die cut panel. The crimping weakens the paper slightly, and using the tape at full strength can tear the delicate edges.
Once the tape in place, lightly ink blend the three sides with the Dew Ink and then gently removing the tape.
Tear this panel diagonally from top right to bottom left. Roll the torn edge forward in a few places to add extra texture and dimension, then use white glue to attach the torn panel over the stamped background panel.
Attach the finished panel to a white top-folding A2-sized card base using foam tape for dimension.

Create the Flowers and Focal Image:
Die cut the flowers and stems using the Delicate Wildflower Dies and white and Audrey Blue cardstock. Color the flower centers with the Y19 copic marker for a soft pop of contrast.
- Stamp the Guinea Pig image from Furever Grateful Stamp Set using Memento-Tuxedo Black ink and color with copic markers
Guinea Pig: E-31, E35, #57 - Flowers: Y19
Once colored, die cut out with the coordinating die.

Die Cut the Sentiment:
Die cut the Missing You sentiment three times from Audrey Blue cardstock. Layer and adhere the die cuts together for extra dimension, then attach the sentiment along the bottom of the front card panel.
PRO-TIP – Leave the top of the “g” in “Missing” unglued so you can tuck the flower stems underneath for a more natural layered look.
Assemble the card:
Attach the Guinea Pig image above the sentiment using foam squares. Add the stems and leaves first, then finish y attaching the die cut flowers with foam squares for added depth and dimension.
