Simon Says Sword Fern Die

Hi card making friends.  Today I’m sharing Simon Says Sword Fern Die card as part of the new Dream Big Release from Simon.  This is another fabulous release with lots of fun new products – especially dies and embossing folders and my card shares two of those today.  The Rhythmic Embossing folder and the Sword Fern Die.

There is also a blog hop today and tomorrow with lots of creative inspiration for you and you can check out the DREAM BIG GALLERY for those.

Today’s card took about 10 minutes to make as I used a premade background created with Lindy’s Gang  Magicals Powders in Shabby Turbine, Teal and Tibetan Poppy.  To achieve this, wet a piece of watercolor paper before sprinkling the powders on, then spritz with water again, shifting the paper to move the liquid around to stain the entire front of the paper.  It’s a fun and messy technique, and I usually make 15 – 20 backgrounds in one sitting so I have them on hand for quick cards like today.

I have a VIDEO on this process here.

How to create the Simon Says Stamp Sword Fern Card

Place the 4 x 5-1/2 inked watercolor paper inside the Rhythmic embossing folder and run it through the die cutting machine

Next, die cut the fern die 3 times from white cardstock

Use Bearly Art glue to attach the three layers of ferns together.

Next, use 1/4″ score tape to attach the colored cardfront to a A2 sized top folding white card base.

Then, use Bearly Art Glue to attach the fern.  Hold it in place for a minute or two as you are gluing to an uneven surface.

Finally, add a sentiment from the CZ Reverse Happy Sentiment Strips and some sequins from Simons Holographic Rainbow Sequin mix.

The intricate detail in this Rhythmic embossing folder is hard to see in my photos so here’s a close up.  There are 4 layers in the texture and it is stunning.

  1. Beautiful card Sandi, I adore the die but I also love the blue green background with the extra texture from the embossing folder. I may need to get some of those powders!

    1. Thanks lisa, you NEED those powders, they are so awesome, I seriously set up and spend an entire afternoon making backgrounds trying out new color combos
