Stitched Christmas Tree Card

Hey card-making friends, welcome back. Yesterday, I decided it was time to dig out the Stitched Die Set of the Month from Spellbinders. This is called Merry and Bright Cloche, and I created this Stitched Christmas Tree Card. The die set includes everything on my card, including the cute Cloche that you die-cut and glue together to create a pretty background. The gold base portion is stitched, as are the tree and tree stand.

The die cutting took about 10 minutes and the stitching took about 15 minutes so this card was really quick and easy.  I decided to use a piece of pattern paper for the card front and the plaid piece is from the Storytelling Sunshine Prints pack.

Color Choices for Today’s Card:

I picked my background pattern paper and my tree color (mint), and then went looking through my Color Cubes for a card that would highlight those colors.  I decided on Card #090 which recommended the Raspberry color which I used for the tree stand.  The card needed a pop of color, and that worked.  You can see the card in the above image on the right.

How to Create the Stitched Christmas Tree Card

Start by cutting a piece of the plaid Storytelling Sunshine Prints paper 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and attaching it to a top folding A2 sized white card base.  4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″

Next, die cut all the pieces to create the card.

  • Cloche is cut from Lagoon cardstock and backed with white.
  • Oval under the tree, cut from white,
  • Base of Cloche is Gold foil cardstock from the Gold Assortment Treasured pack
  • Tree is cut from Mint (cut two and glue them together for added strength).
  • Tree stand – Raspberry

PRO-TIP Next,  glue the two tree pieces together.  I find when there are really long stitches like this one, one layer of cardstock has a tendency to bow.  By cutting two and gluing them together, it eliminates this issue.  Stitch with the DMC Gold thread.

Then, stitch the tree stand in gold thread and the gold bottom of the cloche in DMC #164 to match the tree.

Finally, glue the white backing onto the Lagoon colored Cloche, add the white bottom piece and then glue the bottom gold panel on.

Stitched Christmas Tree Card – Pulling it all together

Glue the Cloche to the card base.

Next, add foam squares to the back of the tree and tree stand and add them.

Then, cut the gold star and glue it at the top of the tree.

Finally, embellish the background with the small Spectrum AB Color Essential Gems.
