Hey card making friends and welcome back. Today I have a New Card Making Video – Altenew Peony Spray to share with you. I have long had a love affair with Altenew and their beautiful floral stamps and as I am no longer a S.U. demonstrator, I am free to post cards I have created with these beautiful Altenew products.
Their images are beautifully sketched, the stamps create a crisp image and who doesn’t love a coordinating die to cut them out.
How to create the Altenew Peony Spray Card:
Color the beautiful Peony Spray image and then die cut it out with the Peony Spray Die (you can buy them separately or as a set)
I’m using the Altenew Artist Markers for my coloured floral image the Green Fields and Red Cosmos combos.
You can purchase the Altenew Artist Markers in a variety of ways. I started with a couple of these 4 pack sets just to make sure I liked them (and I do).
You can also order the Artist Markers in sets of 12, in Set A, Set B and Set C, or, you can order all 36 at a time, with the re-inkers. I just did that and I’m hoping they arrive today. Altenew also has replacement brush nibs for their markers. I love that they are refillable and have replacement tips – both were selling features for me.
Stamp the Altenew Peony Spray image in Permanent Black Ink onto Hammermill 100# card stock.
Next, color each petal individually, starting with the lightest of the markers to flood the entire area and then adding shadows with the darker colours before going back and blending them together with the lightest colour.
Use the colorless blender to blend colors, remove ink or add highlights. Watch the video below, I colour a petal and a leaf for you before showing you how I created the background.
How to create the Background:
For the Background I tried out the Altenew Mini Cube Inks. Again, I ordered a few of the small ones to try out their ink before investing in all the large ones and I’m happy to say I love them, great colours and you can watercolor with them YIPEE!.
I ordered:
and for the background I used the Forest Glades and Coral Bliss cubes
Start by die cutting my watercolour paper with the Memory Box Stitched Rectangle Dies.
Smear some ink onto the craft mat , wet down the watercolor paper and used the Watercolor Brushes to pick up the ink and add it to the paper.
This gave me my basic background. I let it dry a bit, and then squeezed out a drop of water into my smeared ink, picked it up again with my watercolor brush, and flicked it onto the paper for the second layer (those cool blotchy dots), watch the video below for further explanation on how I do this.

thank you Aileen, I like bright and happy cards, and it’s cold and snowy here, so had to be extra bright, haha

aw, thanks so much Sylvia, really appreciate your support.
Beautiful card, Sandi!! I love Altenew, too. Can’t wait to see your future creations!!
Thanks so much Chris, and so nice to hear from you. Yep, I’m totally in love with these stamps
Oh Sandi, your card is just breathtaking. I must say, you are in your element creating with such passion! Love tour creation
Beautifully coloured Sandi. I am happy to see you ordering from SSS as that is my favourite place. Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks Gail, mine too, I’m impatiently awaiting two more orders from them held up in the christmas rush, haha
Have you switched over to this company or are you still with Stampin’ Up? How are these products better then what Stampin’ Up has? Just curious. BTW, I am a true fan of all your creations, have been for years. Thanks for sharing your beautiful inspiration.
Hi Barbara, thanks so much appreciate that very much. I did resign from Stampin Up at the beginning of December. I’ve gone back to stamping for fun instead of for work. I like the floral stamps from Altenew, and I love coloring them, it’s simply a personal preference, not that anything is better, just different.
Beautiful card Sandi, as always. How do you think these markers compare to Stampin Up!s Stampin Blends?
Hi Jane, thank you so much. I find these markers a little easier to blend with and I really like the fact that they are refillable and I can replace the tips,
Absolutely beautiful card. Love watching your video. You are always so informative. Great teacher. I have to admit I’m obsessed with Altenew flmyself!
aw, thank you Cathy, I appreciate your lovely comments….glad to see we still have so much in common haha
I have followed you for years and when I got this post, I realized you must have resigned from SU. Due to the holiday, I was really backed up with posts and am so glad to see that you are still creating and posting. Love, Love, Love altenew but just didn’t figure I could ever learn to use these beautiful stamps. Thanks for the tutorial and the tips — I’m going to give them a try and will come back through this post to order. Love your style and your cards and am just glad you are still creating and sharing! Thanks bunches!
Thanks Tami, yes I did resign, I’ve gone back to just stamping for fun instead of for work, which also gives me the freedom to create with whatever tools I wish. I have always loved these stamps and this company, so glad you loved the card too. Thanks so much for the support
Love this card!
Thank you Cindie
Sandi, So glad your still blogging and doing videos I really like your cards, you have a great eye for style and colors. Thanks
aw, thank you Sheri, I appreciate that very much. I definitely will continue to blog and do videos, with all kinds of products
Hi Sandi. Nice to see what you are now doing. I have a couple of Altenew stamp sets and really like them. Stamp perfect every time and leaves a crisp stamp on your paper. Look forward to seeing future posts – enjoy your new fun world.
thank you Marian, it’s fun to be playing with some new products
love the card and stamp, most of all, I love how you make the instructions so easy to follow.
aw, thank you Annett, I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
Oh! Beautiful card as always! So glad you will be creating and sharing with us! I love the detail coloring but seems like I always run out of time and need a card in a hurry. So watercoloring is the faster option for me. I hope one day to be able to slow down and have the time to enjoy doing detail stuff!
Thanks Kathy, and yes I totally get that, the next card will be watercoloured, haha
Sandi your instructions and card translate to all of us whether we are doing stampin up or Altenew etc. I have always loved your videos and will continue to watch and order under you. Remind me how we order?
Thank you Barbara, appreciate that very much. As I am no longer a demonstrator you can’t order S.U. from me any longer, but all the other companies you can simply by clicking on their banner in the right side of my blog. Thanks so much for your support, means a lot to me.
Absolutely stunning card, Sandi! You are a born teacher, or a natural! Love the vibrant colours that fairly leap off the paper in this one. And that background! Such a joy-filled card!! Wow!
