NEW Cardmaking VIDEO – Early Tulips and Arteza Real Brush Pens - Sandi MacIver

Hi cardmaking friends, today I’m sharing Early Tulips and Arteza real brush pens.

Our snow has melted and I was checking out my garden. Little heads and leaves of tulips are just starting to poke out and I was trying to remember what colors I planted haha. I honestly do not remember, So I decided it might be fun to color some and see what color combos I could come up with. I’m using the Picket Fence Early Tulip Bouquet Stamp ( a favorite at the moment).

The Arteza real brush pens have been sitting on my “to do” table just begging me to play with them again, so I’m using those too.

When I was a kid my mom had the best tulips. They were called Parrot Tulips and they were red, orange yellow and green, with ruffled edges, I loved seeing them each year. As I seem to be on a purple streak of late, I decided to paint some purple parrot tulips (say that fast three times, haha).

In this video, I get a little more into color blends and layering with the Arteza Real Brush Pens. Again, I’m no expect, I’m just sharing a few techniques I like to play with. I was kind of just fooling around, but I like the end result and I think I’ll call mine Funky Tulips.

I started by black heat embossing the Early Tulip Stamps from Picket Fence Designs onto watercolor paper. Then I got out a selection of purples and greens. When I finished the first card I decided it needed a bit more “life”, so I went back and blended in some Teal and Yellow and that really POPPED the flowers.

Even if the watercolor is dry, you can activate it again with a wet brush, although it’s a bit harder to move. Hence, I used this to my advantage by doing sort of a “dry brush” technique over the tulips with the blue and yellow.

Once the piece was dry I used the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle Wafer Dies to cut it out which added a beautiful stitched detail and beautiful cut edge to my art piece.

I splattered some Purple and Gold Gansai Tambi Gem Colors paint onto the background before adding my heat embossed sentiment.

Finally, I added a sprinkle of the Simon Says Stamp Flowering Clover Sequins (New colors and they are FABULOUS – I share them in the video)
