Card Making Make Your Own Stripes

Hey crafty friends and welcome back. Today I have Card Making Make Your Own Stripes to share with you.

This masking technique is a lot of fun and does not require a lot of tools or knowledge, it’s just fun! You probably have everything I’m playing with today or something similar in your stash. It’s also a great way to use your LARGE stamps if and when you don’t feel like coloring them in.

I have two cards to share with you today using the “Make your own Stripes” technique.

Technique Tips:

– You need three colors of ink that blend well together, almost any ink will do. I used Gina K Designs: Ocean Mist, Jelly Bean Green and Wild Lilac.
– I used wide purple tape, you can also use post it tape, or washi tape
– Work on a grid, so Simon Says Stamp Grid paper, or the Tim Holtz Glass MEDIA Mat, as you want to ensure your tape is straight
– Blending tool. Blending brushes, ink daubers, Mini blending tool, all work well.

– Adhere a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 piece of Neenah Solar White 80# card to your grid, (the big purple tape at the bottom in the image)
– Use two more pieces of tape to mask off the area you wish to blend.
– Blend the ink
TIP – before removing the tape, wipe it clean with a dry cloth so you don’t transfer that ink with your next color.
– Gently peal the tape back, and heat dry the ink before moving on to the next section – If you don’t the damp edges could pull up with the tape

Additional tips for the Card Making Make Your Own Stripes Cards:

For Balance – Use 3 colors

Use 1 color 3 times spread evenly through your design

Repeat sizes of stripes for uniformity

Once you have your backgrounds done, it’s time to get out your Misti and a really juicy black ink pad. I used VersaFine Onyx Black, but really, any black ink pad will do. The Misti is critical to this next step as you will want to ink and stamp a few times to get the images and sentiments as dark as possible.

TIPS for the sentiments.

Look for Bold thick lettering if you are going over some of your stripes, otherwise try and stamp the smaller sentiments on a white portion of the card.

The above image and sentiment are from Simon Says Stamp Daisy Bouquet Stamp Set.

The second card image is from the Simon Says Stamp Botanical Heart Stamp Set and the sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Thankful Flowers. Check your stash you probably have a few stamps that will be perfect for this technique.

Once the ink is dry, attach to a top folding A2 card base in thick white.

Coordinating envelope: While you have the mess out, stripe out some coordinating envelopes.
