Hi crafty friends and welcome back. Today’s card share is a fun special fold card, Spellbinders Flyby Greetings Easel Card. I have not made an easel card in FOREVER so it was time. I’m creating with the May Small Die of the Month Club kit, Flyby Greetings. It’s a fabulous die set with a biplane which is so fun to put together. It also has a huge Banner attached to it’s tail and the kit as 3 different sentiments you can use. I have used two today to create my card.
These are great masculine birthday cards, and I decided to ink blend my backgrounds today to look like the beautiful blue and purple sky, just before dusk.

I really wanted to do a video for this one but we are in the final stages and the last rooms (the master suite) of our home renovation, so sadly, I just don’t have time this week. We will get this house put back together in the coming week, and then I’ll be back on a regular schedule for videos and cardmaking I promise.
How to create an EASEL CARD:
Today’s card is a wide easel card, meaning, it’s landscape at 5-1/2″ wide and 4-1/4″ tall.
Start the base by cutting a piece of cardstock 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and score it at 4-1/4″
Next, on one of the sides, score again at 2-1/8″. Do a valley fold on this score line, and this creates the little triangle at the back that creates the Easel.
Then, you need two card fronts cut at 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″, one is the top standing (white piece in the above image). The second creates the base, (gray piece flat at the bottom in the image – it’s also the inside of the card).
Finally, once you ink blend the pieces, you will place adhesive on the folded triangle base piece that faces front, and adhere the bottom of the top card front. The second card front is glued flat to the inside of the card to create the base.
Inks used: Distress Oxide Ink: Wilted Violet, Broken China and Tumbled Glass
Let me know if this isn’t clear, and I’ll do a video as soon as I can.
Spellbinders Flyby Greetings Easel Card
Start by die cutting all the pieces for the biplane. I used Waterfall, Teal Topaz, silver and black to create mine.
Next, use the fine tip on the Bearly Art Glue to glue the pieces together.
Then, die cut the two banners you want for the card.
PRO-TIP – you need two banners, or a bunch of extra clouds, as the second banner is placed on the bottom piece, raised by foam tape, this supports the top of the card standing up like an easel (in the image above, that is my Hip Hip Hooray banner, with the two clouds.
Putting the card together:
First, cut out a bunch of clouds, there are two dies in different sizes for this. Cut most from white cardstock and a few from vellum, to add depth of field to the finished image.
Next, dry fit the biplane and banners. Under these, glue down the vellum clouds, only using glue where there will be an overlap, as glue shows through vellum.
Then, using foam squares, attach the clouds. The permanently attach the plane and banners also using foam squares.
Finally, embellish with Color Essentials Teal Opalescent sequins

Brilliant Sandi! The easel format works so well for this set. I love how you used the biplane and included two sentiments!
Thanks Lisa, it was super fun to create
Hi Sandi – My die set arrived and I am having fun playing with the plane! My words are not showing up like your words on the banner. Any tricks you can pass along?
Hi Sharon. Pop an additional piece of cardstock on top of your cutting sandwich and run it through the die cutting machine. The letters should pop out. Then, I mounted them with foam squares, so there is a darker shadow behind. Hope that helps.
Sandi – thanks for another pro tip. Off to try it!!
you are so welcome Sharon, have fun with it
