The Weekender Goes Wild Craft Kit | Say Hello to Huey

Hey cardmaking friends, welcome back.  I recently treated myself to the Spellbinders The Weekend Craft Kit.  I know…. it’s a month after the release, but I’ve been wanting this kit ever since I first saw it. I love the tropical vibe, and I’m a total sucker for cute die sets!  Huey the Chameleon completely stole my heart.  And can we talk about that name?  Huey….as in changing hues.  So clever!

Yesterday, I actually took a little time off.  Well….about three hours, LOL.  I spent the morning deep-cleaning the house because my mother-in-law is coming for a visit, and thanks to our shedding corgi, Bailey, we have dust bunnies the size of small dinosaurs roaming around, haha.

Once the house was respectable, I finally opened The Weekend box, oohed and aahed over all the fun goodies inside, transferred the dies to magnetic storage sheets, and got busy creating.

Scroll down, and I’ll share everything I used and how I made today’s card!.

Products Used for the Weekender Goes Wild Craft Kit:

The Weekender Goes Wild Card Kit which includes:

Go Wild Sentiments and Dies
Huey Chameleon
Foliage from Tiki Toucan
Flowers from Jungle Blooms

How to create the Huey Card:

Create the Card Front:

Start by ink smooshing a 4″ x 5-1/4″ panel of white cardstock with Mermaid Lagoon and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink.  Once dry, emboss the panel with the Tropicana Texture Embossing Folder (the folder has two-A2 designs so pick one).  Lightly blend Mermaid Lagoon iround the edges to highlight the beautiful embossed details.

Attach the panel to the front of a top-folding A2-sized white card base.

Die Cut Huey:

Die cut the base of Huey from Windy cardstock, then ink blend the pieces with Mermaid Lagoon and Prize Ribbon Distress Oxide Inks.

Die cut the body and tail stripes from Teal Topaz, Peridot, Beeswax, Orchid and Lilac.  Die cut the spine and nose pieces from Peridot cardstock.

Glue the colorful stripes in place, then lightly ink blend the tummy to add a bit of shading before assembling the legs, tail, head and body.

Create the Branch and Foliage:

Using the dies from the Tiki Toucan die set, cut the branch from Truffle cardstock and the rest of the foliage from Peridot cardstock.  Ink blend the foliage first with Mermaid Lagoon, then with Rustic Wilderness to create shadow and depth.

Die cut the flowers using the Jungle Blooms die set.  Ink blend the centers with Seedless Preserves before adding the Beeswax colored die-cut centers.

Assemble the Card:

Attach Huey on the branch to the center of the card front with foam squares.  Then use foam squares and white glue to add the foliage and flowers.  This creates lots of dimension.

Finish the card by scattering a few Peridot Color Essential Gems for a little extra sparkle and interest.
