Simon Says Stamp Pop of Color | Color Wheel Card

Hi cardmaking friends – welcome back!    Today I’m sharing a super fun project that truly speaks to my artist heart.  As someone who loves color theory, the color wheel is near and dear to me, so I had an absolute blast playing with the Pop of Color Stamp and Die set from the Simon Says Stamp  Heart to Heart release.

Building the color wheel was definitely the highlight – blending those vibrant hues together never gets old!  The paint brushes were just as enjoyable to create, though I’ll admit my biggest design debate (with myself, haha), was whether to give them bright, playful handles or keep them true to life.  In the end, I chose realism and went with classic brown handles – just like the well-loved brushes in my own studio.

Sometimes the little details make the biggest impact!

How to create the Simon Says Stamp Pop of Color | Color Wheel Card

Start by stamping the color wheel onto a  4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Hammermill cardstock using VersaMark Ink, cover with black embossing powder, shake off the excess and heat set.  On a separate scrap of white cardstock, stamp and black heat emboss the paint brushes and sentiment.

PRO-TIP:  When ink blending over stamped black images, even well-dried ink can sometimes smear.  Heat embossing the outlines first creates a smooth, sealed barrier that prevents smudging and keeps your blends clean and vibrant.

Next, use Post-It-Note Tape, to mask off each section of the color wheel.  Working one segment at a time, blend a light and dark shade from each of the 12 color families to create a smooth gradient around the wheel.

Inks Used: Pawsitively Saturated Inks:

  • Cherry/ Rhubarb,
  • Watermelon/ Carnation,
  • Taffy/ Bubblegum,
  • Amethyst/ Orchid,
  • Iris/ Heather,
  • Royal/ Marine,
  • Ocean/ Seafoam,
  • Lucky/ Spring,
  • Pearfection/ Celery,
  • Citrine/ Lemonade,
  • Mandarin/ Cantaloupe,
  • Pucker/ Peachy

Use Copic markers to color the brushes:

  • Handle:  E31, E35, E57
  • Ferrule: (silver band) N1, N4
  • Bristles:  E41, E44, E43

Then, use the coordinating die set to die cut all the pieces.

The ink-blended wheel includes vibrant shades of pink, purple, blue, green, yellow, and orange with the layered sentiment “You Color My World” in the center. Three realistic paint brushes with brown handles and silver ferrules are arranged around the wheel. The white background is stamped with overlapping black color wheel outlines and black ink splatter for artistic detail. The card is photographed flat lay style and surrounded by Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink pads in coordinating colors including Cherry, Mandarin, Lemonade, Pearfection, Carnation, Amethyst, Ocean, and Seafom.

Create the Card Base:

Start with a white, top-folding A2 card base and place it in your Misti stamping tool.  Stamp the color wheel image three times using VersaFine Clair Nocturn Ink to create a bold, graphic background.

Next, move both the card base and the finished color wheel panel to your splatter box.  Lightly splatter them with Pawsitively Perfect Black Splatter Medium for added texture and artistic interest.  Set aside to dry completely.

Once dry, adhere the ink-blended color wheel to the center of the card front using foam squares for dimension.  Finish by popping up the paint brushes and sentiments with additional foam squares to create  depth and visual impact.
