Spotlight Technique Card | Simon Says Stamp Crocus Field

Hi crafty friends–welcome back!  Today I’m combining two of my favorite techniques to create the Spotlight Technique Card.  I’m using the Simon Says Stamp Crocus Field embossing folder and cutting out a circle to create the spotlight effect before coloring it with Copic markers.

This quick and easy technique is just one of many creative ways you can use embossing folders while achieving beautiful results every time.  And don’t feel limited to circles–try a Square, a tag, or even a word die cut.  The possibilities for the Spotlight Technique are endless, LOL.

Keep reading, and I’ll show you how easy it really is.

How to create the Spotlight Technique Card | Simon Says Stamp Crocus Field:

Create the Card Base:

Trim a panel of Audrey Blue cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and attach it to the front of a white, top-folding, A2-sized card base.

Create the Spotlight Panel:

Trim a panel of white cardstock to 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Die cut the spotlight shape of your choice from the panel.  Place both the outer panel and the die-cut spotlight piece inside the embossing folder, lining them up carefully, then emboss them together.

PRO-TIP – don’t do this in reverse, because die cutting it afterwards will flatten the embossing.

Color the spotlight piece using copic markers.  Die cut a second circle (or whatever shape you chose)  once size larger from white cardstock and adhere the spotlight piece on top to create a framed focal point.

Assemble the Card:

Adhere the embossed background panel to the front of the card base.

Use foam squares to pop up the spotlight panel over the opening, making sure the embossed pattern lines up for a seamless look.

Finish the card by adding a pre-printed sentiment or stamp one of your own.

And yes…. probably aa little clear-as-mud right now, LOL–but I’ll be sharing a full video tutorial in a couple of weeks that walks through the entire Spotlight Technique step-by-step!
