Ok, I’m back to full color today with these beautiful Wild Coneflowers designed by Simon Hurley for Spellbinders. This is a new release this month, and I absolutely LOVE the new Layered Cascading Dots embossing folder.
For this card, I used the Essential Arches Dies to create an arched card base and then added a second layered arch inside to repeat the design and draw the eye to the focal point. As I was creating it, I couldn’t decide if it reminded me of a charming garden gate, or a view through a cottage window – but I think either interpretation works perfectly.
I’ve always loved coneflowers, and the purple varieties are my favorites, so I had a little fun customizing the color palette on this one. The best part? It’s incredibly easy to achieve and only requires one color of cardstock and a single ink pad to create the beautiful purple shade.
Scroll down and I’ll share how I made it.

Products used for the Wild Coneflower Cardmaking Idea:
- Wild Coneflowers Etched Dies
- Big Bold Sentiments Dies
- Essential Arches Dies
- Layering Cascading Dots Embossing Folder
Instructions for the Wild Coneflower Cardmaking Idea:
Create the Card Base:
Begin by die cutting the largest Essential Arches dies twice from white cardstock. Score 1/2″ in, and down the left side of the back panel and apply red line tape to the scored tab. Remove the release paper and adhere the top arch directly on top to create the shaped card base.
Next, using the second-largest arch die to cut a panel of Orchid cardstock. Emboss the arched panel with the Layering Cascading Dots Embossing Folder, then ink blend the lower portion with Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink to add depth and dimension. Adhere the embossed panel to the front of the card base.
Using the arch die two sizes smaller, along with two sizes smaller die nested inside, die cut three arch frames from white cardstock. Stack and glue the frames together to create dimension, then attach the layered frame to the front of the card.

Create the Flowers:
Die cut the flower petals from Orchid cardstock and ink blend them with Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink, working from the outer tips towards the center and leaving a touch of the original pink cardstock visible.
Die cut the cone flower centers from Beeswax cardstock and ink blend the lower portion with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink. Die cut the coordinating base pieces from brown cardstock and adhere them to the flower centers.
Die cut the the stems and leaves from Rainforest cardstock and lightly ink blend them with Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide Inks for added shading.
Arrange the flowers so they cascade down the left side of the arch. Secure them with a combination of foam squares and liquid adhesive to create depth and interest.
Add the Sentiment:
Use the Hello die and shadow die from the Be Bold Sentiments Set to cut the sentiment from Orchid and Black cardstock. Layer the pieces together and attach the sentiment to the lower right corner of the card using foam squares for dimension.
