Today I’m sharing a bright spring card created with the Spellbinders Yana’s Tulips BetterPress and Stencil Set. I’m definitely ready for spring flowers here in Alberta, so these cheerful tulips felt like the perfect way to encourage the season to arrive a little sooner.
This beautiful set is part of Yana Smakula’s new release at Spellbinders, launching today. The set includes a detailed BetterPress plate along with coordinating layering stencils, making it quick and easy to add color.
For this card, I used the stencils to apply the base colors, then enhanced the shading and highlights with my Prismacolor colored pencils for added depth.
Let’s take a look at how the card came together.

Products Used for the Bright Spring Tulip Card | Spellbinders Yana’s Tulips BetterPress and Stencil Set
- BetterPress Tulips and Daffodils plate
- Layered Tulips and Daffodils Stencil
- Bouquet of Hugs Sentiment BetterPress Plate

How to Make the Bright Spring Tulip Card:
Start by cutting a piece of white cardstock to 4″ x 5-1/4″ (I love Hammermill cardstock for BetterPress). Use black BetterPress Ink to press the floral image onto the panel.
Once the ink is dry, use the Layered Tulips and Daffodils Stencil to add the main colors to the image. I like to blend in a second color with a small blending brush to create shadows and add depth.
Inks used: Simon Says Stamp: Zest, Sherbet, Limelicious, Pearfection, Field, Carnation, and Peony
Next, enhance the details with Prismacolor colored pencils, or your coloring medium of choice. I added deeper shadows with darker shades and brushed a bit of orange over the detail lines in the daffodil petals.
Attach the finished panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.
Use Gold Glimmer Foil to create the Bouquet of Hugs sentiment and attach it to the bottom of the card using black foam squares for dimension.
To finish the card, add a light sprinkling of Gold Color Essential Gems for a touch of sparkle.
