Hi cardmaking friends–welcome back? Do you run into this problem? You have the perfect color combo in mind, but when you go to make your card…. You Don’t Have The Right Color Cardstock?
Happens to me all the time, haha….
For today’s card, I had my heart set on that bright, in-your-face spring pink for the flowers, but of course, I didn’t have it. So I used a quick and easy ink-blending technique to create the exact shade I wanted. I even started with colored cardstock, which made the blending faster and easier.
Read on and I’ll show you!

Products used for today’s Ink Blended Square Card Idea:
- Simon Says Stamp Thanks Mom stamp and Die Set
- Simon Says Stamp Jaunty Stem Die Set
- Simon Says Stamp Wooden Plank Embossing Folder

How to create the You Don’t Have The Right Color Cardstock Card:
Do you like making square cards? I LOVE them. For some reason it feels like you get a little more creative real estate to work with–and I especially enjoy designing layouts that fit that shape.
If you have seen my past cards created with the Jaunty Stem Die set (Linked below), you’ll know that it’s designed as a long, narrow stem. But don’t be afraid to think outside the box! For this card, I trimmed the leaves off the stems and used the stem pieces to create a wreath–no waste, and a completely different look.
Create the Card Base:
Cut a 5″ x 10″ piece of white cardstock and scoring it at 5″ to create the square card base.
Next, trim a panel of Audrey Cardstock to 4-1/4″ square. Emboss it with the Wooden Plank Embossing Folder, then lightly ink blend it with Surf Ink to enhance the texture. Adhere the panel to the center of the card base.
Die cut the Floral Elements:
Die cut the Jaunty Stem flower die five times from Simon Says Stamp Cotton Candy cardstock
Cut the stem portion 5 times from Gina K Designs Key Lime cardstock for that fresh, early spring green.
Cut the flower centers 5 times from a pale yellow cardstock.

Ink Blend the Floral Elements:
Use Perfection ink to add shading to the base of the leaves
Use Honey ink to add depth to the flower centers
For the flowers – start by ink blending from the center outward with Rhubarb. Then go over the petals with Taffy to deepen the color. Finally, lightly blend a touch of Taffy in from the outer edges to highlight the tips of each petal.
Once the ink blending is complete, adhere the flower centers to the open flowers. Attach the stems to the side-view flowers, trimming off the excess stems to use later for the wreath.
Create the Wreath:
Use white liquid glue, arrange and adhere the stem pieces in a circular shape to form the wreath.
Add small foam squares to the backs of the flowers and attach them around the wreath.
Use tiny pieces of foam squares to adhere the leaves, tucking them in around the flowers for added dimension.
Embellish the Card:
White heat emboss a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp thanks Mom stamp and die set. Die cut it and attach it to the center of the wreath.
Use a #10 Sakura White Gel Pen to add some highlights to the flower centers
Finish the card with a sprinkling of Clear Gems for a touch of sparkle and shine.
