I know — this is a funny direction for me considering my last few posts have been all about bold color combos, LOL. But today, we’re switching gears and learning how to embrace the white space in cardmaking and let our design truly shine. Clean and simple cardmaking doesn’t mean boring–it means being intentional. By leaving areas open and uncluttered, your focal point stands out even more. We don’t always need to cover every inch with ink, colour, and layers (Okay….maybe I still want to, haha), but this easy floral die cut card design is all about balance, contrast, and letting the details breathe.
I had the Gerbera Daisy Background stamp from the recent Simon Says Stamp In My Heart Release on my desk, fully planning to watercolor it–but this design to a completely different turn. Instead, I used the stamped florals as a subtle background texture, allowing a bold row of layered die-cut flowers to take center stage. I divided the card front into thirds for a clean, modern layout: the top third remains open for the sentiment, the middle showcases the dimensional florals, and the bottom third adds interest with soft stamped detail. It’s still white space – but with a hint of pattern that adds depth without overwhelming the design. This is one of my favorite cardmaking techniques for creating clean and simple cards with the right amount of detail.

Products used to create today’s card:

4 Ways to Embrace White Space in Cardmaking:
- Outline Stamping – adds soft background detail without overwhelming the design
- Dry Embossing – use an embossing folder to create texture with a clean tone-on-tone look
- Stencil Paste – adds subtle dimension with minimal visual weight
- Intentional Layout – do nothing, leave it white and let your focal point shine
How to create today’s card:
Create the Card Base:
Trim a panel of white cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. Place it in your Misti and stamp the Gerbera Daisy Background approximately 2/3 of the way down from the top, leaving plenty of white space. Adhere the panel to a white, top-folding A2-sized card base.
Die cut the Florals:
Use the Rustic Layering Flower Die Set to cut three two-layer flowers from Lavender cardstock. Die cut 5 sets of leaves from Audrey Blue cardstock, along with two layered flower centers from gold cardstock.
Add depth by lightly ink blending the centers of the flowers in Violet ink and the tips of the leaves with surf ink.

Stamp the Sentiment:
Place the card panel back into your Misti and dry fit the flowers across the top section. Position your sentiment, remove the florals, and stamp the sentiment in place.
Finish the card:
Use foam squares to adhere the flowers and leaves across the top of the card, creating a dimensional focal point. For a clean and simple look, leave the design unembellished — but you can add a few gems if you’d like a touch of sparkle.
