Hi crafty friends – welcome back!
Today I’m sharing my third Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Project for May, and this easy birthday card idea features the fabulous Big Present Die Set. This oversized die-cut gift box creates a bold focal point and is perfect for birthday cards, celebration cards, gift-themed cards, and fun die-cutting projects.
To add extra sparkle and birthday bling, I used gold heat embossing with the stars from the Make a Wish Stamp and Cut Set. The combination of soft pastel cardstock, layered die cuts, metallic gold accents and heat embossed details creates such a fun and elegant handmade birthday card design.
If you love easy die cutting techniques, heat embossing, layered cardmaking, and creative ways to stretch your Hero Arts My Monthly Hero kits, you’re going to love this project.
So, let’s jump in — I’ll show you exactly how I made it.

How to Create This Easy Birthday Card Idea:
Create the Card Base:
Trim a panel of Waterfall cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. White heat emboss it with the confetti stamps from the Birthday Icons Stamp & Cut set and then adhere it to a side-folding A2 sized white card base (5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, score and fold at 4-1/4″).
PRO-TIP – place all three confetti stamps onto one acrylic handle to speed up the stamping process.
Create the Art Pieces:
Die cut the Big Present from Coral cardstock. Before assembling the gift box, randomly stamp the star image from the Make a Wish Stamp and Cut set across the panel and gold heat emboss it for added birthday sparkle and shine. Once complete, adhere the lid in place and finish the design with the layered gold die cut bow and ribbon pieces.

Create the Sentiment:
Die cut the two tag pieces from gold cardstock. White heat emboss the birthday sentiments onto the tags, then thread them through the gold loop detail. Secure the top of the loop behind the center of the bow, and attach the tags with small pieces of foam tape to add extra dimension, movement, and visual interest to the center of the die cut gift box.
