Elegant Bow Shoes Card Idea | Alex Syberia Designs BetterPress & Glimmer Foil - Sandi MacIver

Well, I went right off the deep end today and created something a little different for you, haha. I’m still playing with the new Alex Syberia Designs release, and this time I used the Bow Shoes BetterPress Plate paired with the Shoes Sentiments BetterPress Plates to create this stylish handmade card.

Many years ago, I had a favorite pair of shoes that looked very similar to these. They were dark teal flats with a matching bow on top — and really, is that any surprise, haha? I even had an outfit to match, so whenever I wore them together I felt very fancy.

Those shoes were definitely in my mind when I started designing this card, but somewhere along the way the plan completely derailed, LOL. I decided on soft seafoam green shoes with pink bows, and then the ideas just kept coming. First I Glimmer foiled the pink bows, then I added a tiny black heart foiled background, and before I knew it this simple idea had turned into a full-on fancy little cardmaking project.

If you hang out with me for another minute, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process for creating this BetterPress and Glimmer Foil card using the Alex Syberia Designs Bow Shoes plates.

How to Create This Bow Shoes Card with BetterPress and Glimmer Foil

In this tutorial, I’m sharing how to create this elegant handmade card using the Alex Syberia Designs Bow Shoes BetterPress Plate, Shoes Sentiments Plates, and Glimmer Foil techniques. The soft seafoam background with tiny black foiled hearts and dimensional pink bows makes this card both stylish and fun to create.

1. Prepare the A2 Card Base

Start with a top-folding A2 white card base (4-1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded at 5-1/2″).

Cut a panel of black cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and attach it to the card front.

2. Create the Background

Cut a piece of Seafoam cardstock to 4″ x 5-1/4″.

Use the Tiny Hearts Hot Foil Plate with Black Glimmer Hot Foil to foil the tiny heart pattern across the panel. Set aside.

3. Create the Bow Shoes Elements

Using the Alex Syberia Designs Bow Shoes BetterPress Plate, black foil the shoe design onto two pieces of white cardstock measuring 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.

Use the coordinating stencils to ink blend the colors:

Eucalyptus ink for the shoes on one panel
Guava ink for the bows on the other panel

Fussy cut the shoes and set them aside. Next, fussy cut the bows separately and run them back through the Glimmer Machine to add the small black heart foil details.

Once foiled, color the edges of the shoes and bows with a black marker for a clean finished look. Attach the bows to the shoes using foam squares to add dimension.

PRO TIP:
Running the bows through the Glimmer Machine after cutting them allows the foil details to stay crisp while creating beautiful dimension on the finished card.

4. Foil the Shoes Sentiment

Use Silver Glimmer Foil with the Alex Syberia Designs Shoes Sentiments BetterPress Plates.

Die cut the sentiment using the coordinating die.

5. Assemble the Card

Attach the sentiment to the top left corner of the Seafoam panel using foam squares.

Add the shoes to the panel using foam squares for extra dimension. Flip the panel over and trim any excess so the shoes are even with the edge of the cardstock.

Apply foam tape to the back of the Seafoam panel and attach it to the center of the card front.

6. Embellishing

This card already has plenty of visual interest with the silver foil sentiment, black foiled hearts, and dimensional bows, so I chose not to add additional embellishments.

If you prefer a little extra sparkle, you could easily add a few silver rhinestones or gems.

The combination of BetterPress plates, Glimmer foil, and soft ink blending creates a stylish handmade card that is perfect for fashion lovers or anyone who enjoys elegant cardmaking designs.
