Hero Arts My Monthly Hero April Kit | Mini Slimline Floral Card

I have something a little different for you today– a Mini Slimline Floral card created with the Hero Arts My Monthly SUPER Hero April Kit using simple stenciling, black heat embossing and hand-drawn details.

I have not made a mini slimline card in quite a while, and if you are looking for measurements or inspiration, I have an entire page here on my blog dedicated to Mini Slimline Cards.  For today’s  project, I used the fabulous new Fresh Flowers Die Set, from the My Monthly SUPER HERO Kit.  I paired it with two stencils from my stash to create this modern floral design.  Once I had all of the pieces cut and stenciled, I decided to add a little outlining, crosshatch detail, and extra pen work to the leaves and buds for more texture and interest.

I am sharing all the details in the step-by-step instructions below so you can recreate this Hero Arts My Monthly Hero April Kit Mini Slimline Floral Card for yourself.

How to create the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero April Kit Mini Slimline Card:

Create the Mini Slimline Card Base:

Cut a piece of white cardstock to 6-1/2″ x 6-1/4″, score and fold at 3-1/4″ to create the card base.

Adhere a piece of black cardstock, cut to 3-1/4″ x 6-1/4″ to the front of the card.

Stencil the Card Front:

Cut a white panel to 3″ x 6″ and secure it to a protected work surface.

Place the Cobblestone Stencil over it the panel and ink blend Pearfection ink through the stencil at an angle, keeping it wider at the bottom and narrower toward the top for a soft, modern background.

Adhere this panel to the card front.

Die cut the Art Pieces:

Die cut the vase from Anchor cardstock, the leaves from Rainforest cardstock and the buds from Mulberry cardstock.

Create the Vase:

Ink blend VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink onto the vase, applying heavier color on the left side and fading to lighter on the right.

Once dry, use a blending brush to tap VersaMark Ink through the Dots Stencil on the left side of the vase.  Cover with black embossing powder, shake off the excess and heat set for a textured, heat embossed finish.

Create the Foliage:
Adhere the Mulberry buds to the rainforest stems.

Using a 0.3 Copic Multi liner, add hand drawn outlines and crosshatch details to the leaves and buds to create depth and interest.

Assemble the Card:

Use foam squares to adhere the vase to the bottom of the card front.

Arrange and adhere the foliage so it appears to grow naturally from the vase.

You will notice a diagonal line from the top left to the bottom right where the color is concentrate on one side.  This is intentional and helps guide the eye across the card, while the clean white space allows the stenciled background and die cut elements to really stand out.

PRO-TIP:

Use a stencil with VersaMark ink to create custom heat embossed patterns on your die cuts.  This is an easy way to add texture and detail to solid shapes like your vase without adding extra layers.
