New Card Making Video – How to Add Ink Blending and Texture to Your Hand Made Cards

Hi card making friends.  Today I have a New Card Making Video – How to Add Ink Blending and Texture to Your Hand Made Cards.  I’m using the NEW Half Spring Floral Mandala released last week in the Simon Says Stamp SPLENDOR release.  The butterfly die is Layered Cosmic Butterfly, I bought it from a previous release and haven’t used it yet.

Die Cut Mandala and Butterfly card

These techniques are super easy to do and add great WOW factor to your cards.  the ink blending adds depth and color, and embossing folders are used for that additional “background noise” I like to add to my cards.

Inks used for today’s cards are all from Simon Says Stamp, the Pawsitively Saturated Inks in Heather, Violet, and Iris and the pink is Sweets.  I really like these ink pads as Simon releases a light, medium and dark for each color.  This makes it so easy to pick colors when you are ink blending and adding depth to your die cuts.

How to Add Ink Blending and Texture to Your Hand Made Cards – Card #1

This is the card I make in the video so you have step by step instructions there.

Start with a white A2 sized card base 4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″

Next, take a piece of black cardstock 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, spritz both sides with water.  Place inside the Neatly Knitted Embossing Folder and run it through the die cutting machine.  Once dry, place strong adhesive on the back and secure to the front of the white card base.

Then, die cut the butterflies and Mandala.  You will need 3 white butterflies and 3 black butterflies to get all the pieces, and one Mandala.

Pro-TIP – in the video you will see me use the Craft Stax Medium Trays for my die cuts.  They are perfect for moving all the pieces from my work table to my video table.  They come in two sizes and great for storing die cuts, or traveling with them too.  They also have lids and stack making for easy storage.

Next, watch the video for the ink blending tips for the Mandala and the butterflies, and when dry, glue the butterflies together.

Finally, glue the mandala to the left side of the card front and then add the butterflies.  Embellish with Spellbinders Gems and Icicle Stickles.  Add a sentiment strip from the Send Happiness set.  PS, I ink blended the sentiment the same color as the butterflies.

How to Add Ink Blending and Texture to Your Hand Made Cards – Card #2

Card two has all the same elements as card #1 but they are reversed.

You will need to cut out two mandalas and only 1 butterfly in each color.

Next, ink blend them the same as in the video.  Then, attach both mandalas to the card front, this time with the pointed side facing the middle.

Then, trim off all the overhang.  Cut a circle from vellum for the center of the card before adding the butterfly.

Embellish as in the first card.
