New Spellbinders – Yana’s Daisies

I have some fun cards to share with you today.  Check out the New Spellbinders – Yana’s Daisies.  Yes, the talented Yana has a new collection consisting of Press Plates, coordinating stencils, and dies.  They are lovely, and as Gerbera Daisies are my favorite flower, I couldn’t wait to ink these up.

I didn’t get the stencils, so I tried two different inking techniques with the BetterPress machine and then did a quick coloring with my Copic markers.

I love the bright mix of colors in these cards; they make me happy, and with the Spellbinders BetterPress Machine, they were very easy to achieve.

How to create the New Spellbinders – Yana’s Daisies – Card #1

Place the Daisy Shower plate on the BetterPress magnetic platform ( the Chase) face up. Using BetterPress Inks in Saffron, Taffy, and Wild Berry, ink up the entire surface, dabbing at the seams in the ink with a blending brush to blur them.

Next, secure a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of white cardstock on the clear lid (Platen). Add the lid to the top of the machine and run it through the Platinum 6 die-cutting machine.

PRO-TIP 1 –  I used a larger-than-needed piece of cardstock so that the tape holding the cardstock to the lid was outside the edges of the plate. You can’t just roll tape and add it to the back; it makes the background ink transfer uneven.

PRO-TIP 2 –   If you tape down the Chase (magnetic plate), you can run it back and forth several times to transfer as much ink as possible.

Then, using Copic Markers, color in the flowers.

PRO-TIP 3 –  The BetterPress Ink is Copic friendly. I used the flicking technique for the petals and leaves and the pointillism technique for the flower centers, meaning coloring in with a series of dots in different colors.

Copics Used:  Pinks:  RV11, RV13, RV14, Greens YG03, YG17  Yellows:  Y11, Y15, Y19, Y38

Trim the piece down to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and attach it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.

Finally, using Black Glimmer Hot Foil, foil the Crafty Hugs Sentiments onto a piece of white cardstock.  Die cut with the coordinating dies and attach one with foam squares to the bottom right corner of the card.

How to create the New Spellbinders – Yana’s Daisies – Card #2

I did this card in blues and yellows as a nod to Yana’s home country, the Ukraine.

Start by inking the press plate with VersaFine Clair Warm Breeze ink and running it through the Platinum 6 to transfer.

Again, for this piece, I used a half sheet of cardstock and cut it down afterwards.  This plate is HUGE, so here’s the size of my card.

  • Card base:  6-1/4″ x 10, score and fold at 5
  • Yellow Mat:  4-1/2″ x 5-3/4″
  • Art Piece:  4-1/4 x 5-1/2″

This will fit in a 5″ x 7″ envelope, just place a cut piece of cardstock in with it.

Next, color the image with copic markers:  Flowers:  BG11, BG13, flower centers: Y11, Y15, Y19, Y38, Leaves:  YG03.

Layer to the mat and then to the card front.

Again, black foil a sentiment onto white cardstock, cut out with the coordinating die and attach to the top right of the card with foam squares.

Embellish with some Silver Mix Color Essential Gems.
