NEW VIDEO – Simon Says Stamp Halloween Basics Ink Blended Card

Hi cardmaking friends – welcome back!  Today I’m excited to share a NEW VIDEO – Simon Says Stamp Halloween Basics Ink Blended Card!  I used a couple of fun new sets –  Halloween Basics and My Boo – to create this bold, spooky design.

A while ago, I started an Ink Blending Series over on my YouTube channel, and I decided it was time to bring it back.  Ink blending is one of my favorite techniques because it creates such cool, atmospheric backgrounds with very little effort.

Now I owe you a quick apology for the lack of videos lately!  My old computer refused to accept Windows 11, so I had to invest in a new one.  Then came a two-week wrestling match with Adobe _ I’ve used their edit programs for 18 years, but they insisted I repurchase my editing software just because I upgraded my system (even though my last license was supposed to be good for three years!).  Let’s just say their customer service was…less than magical.

Anyway – rant over!  I actually filmed this project a couple of weeks ago and wanted to get it edited and posted before Halloween passes us by.  So, grab your favorite inks and let’s jump back into some inky fun!.

Handmade Halloween card featuring a bold ink-blended background created with Distress Oxide inks. The design showcases a swarm of black bats spiraling across a glowing yellow moon, fading into pink and purple night sky tones. White paint splatters add a starry effect, and the sentiment “spooky vibes” is die cut and layered in black and white at the center. How to Make the Simon Says Stamp Halloween Basics Ink Blended Card:

  • Cardstock:
White card base:  4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″.
  • Card front:  white 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ (I like to use Hammermill 100 Bright White, it’s really smooth).
  • Art Pieces:  White 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, ghost and sentiment.

I’m not going to dive into step-by-step instructions for this card since everything is covered in the video.  I hop you’ll watch, follow along, and give it a try!  Ink blending is such a relaxing technique – enjoy the process and the beautiful results it creates.

About this Project:

For this design, I created a swirled layered ink-blended background using Distress Oxide Inks in Mustard Seed, Dried Marigold, Picked Raspberry, Villainous Potion and Blueprint Sketch to build a glowing moonlight night effect.  The bats and ghost images come from the Halloween Basics and My Boo stamp and die sets from Simon Says Stamp, and the My Boo ghost plus the “Spooky vibes” sentiment finish the card.

This Technique is perfect for:

  • Halloween and Fall-themed cards
  • Quick, easy backgrounds with high impact
  • Relaxing ink Blending sessions (because blending really is therapy, right?)

PRO-TIP

If your blend looks patchy, do a second layer turning your brush in the opposite direction.  Distress Oxides smooth out beautifully with light pressure and circular motions.

  1. Gorgeous background, you can beat Oxides for seamless blending in my humble opinion. Sorry about your tech troubles. I had to buy a new laptop too and then deal with all that ensued with the changeover – so much fun, not!

    1. Thanks Lisa, I agree, the distress oxides are the best for blending. Sorry you have to go through all this trauma too, I hate buying new electronics, it messes up your life for days, haha
