Good morning. cardmaking friends! Today I’m sharing a Simon Says Stamp You Make Me Laugh card, created with the inlaid die-cutting technique. For this design, I used the fabulous new Dual Diamonds Die. Not only does it cut out the intricate lattice background (shown here in white), but it also creates the diamond inserts – hence the clever name!

One of the fun side effects of die-cutting the additional colors for the inlay is that you end up with extra lattice panels in those colors. They’re perfect for layering and offsetting to create another striking card background. I didn’t have time to finish that version yet, but stay tuned – I’ll be sharing it in a future post.

How to create the Simon Says Stamp You Make Me Laugh Card:

Start with a top-folding A2 sized white card base.

Next, cut a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ panel of white cardstock, die-cut it with the Dual Diamonds Die. Pop out all the diamonds and glue the white lattice panel to the card front.

Then, die-cut the panel twice more in Audrey Blue and Green Apple cardstock. Use the diamond inserts from these panels to inlay the pattern, creating a colorful geometric design on your card front.

Adding the Sentiment:

Start by stamping the happy face from the LOL Stamp Set in Zest Ink onto white cardstock, then die-cut it.

Next, white heat emboss the “You make me laugh” sentiment onto a scrap of black cardstock and die-cut it.

Die-cut the large LOL three times from a black cardstock panel, stack the layers for dimension, and adhere them to the center of the card.

Finally, use foam squares to attach the happy face over the “O” in the LOL, then add the sentiment strip just below.

TIP – Next time, I’d trip apart the LOL and replace the “O” with the happy face. This way, the tail of the first “L” would remain visible for a cleaner look.

TIP #2 – there are stamps in the set to color in the eyes, mouth, and tears for the happy face. I admit to being terrible at overlay stamping, so I didn’t stamp them, LOL.
