Halloween After Dark | Spellbinders Midnight Mischief

Today I’m sharing two colorful Halloween cards featuring the new Spellbinders Midnight Mischief Release!  Both cards combine bright Distress Oxide ink-blended backgrounds with bold black silhouettes for a fun and slightly spooky Halloween look.

Scroll down and read how I made these cards!

Colorful Halloween card featuring black trick-or-treat silhouettes against a bright blue ink-blended sky, with a glowing yellow-orange moon, gold stars, black splatter, and a bold “BOO!” sentiment.

Products used for todays Halloween After Dark Cards:

Two colorful Halloween cards featuring black silhouettes over vibrant Distress Oxide ink-blended backgrounds, including trick-or-treaters beneath a glowing moon and a dramatic sky filled with flying bats.

How to create the Halloween After Dark Cards:

Boo Parade Halloween Card:

For my first card, I used the Boo Parade Silhouette Die to create the adorable group of trick-or-treaters walking across the bottom of the card.
I started by creating an ink blended background with Tumbled GLass, Peacock Feathers and Prize Ribbon Distress Oxide Inks.  The bright blues make a fabulous nighttime sky and provide plenty of contrast for the solid black silhouette.
I added black splatter across the background along with a few glitter gold stars for a little Halloween Sparkle.

Creating the Halloween Moon:

The large moon was die-cut from Beeswax cardstock and then ink blended with Wild Honey and Crackling Campfire Distress Oxide Inks around the edges.  I tucked it in behind the trick-or-treaters so the witch and little goblins are silhouetted against the glowing Halloween moon.

Winged Shadows Halloween Card:

For the second card, I went with another colorful Distress Oxide background, this time using Mowed Lawn, Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet.

Instead of foiling the Winged Shadows Plate, I used it with my BetterPress System and VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink  to press the dramatic black bats over the colorful background.

Once all the ink was dry, I added black splatter to give the background a little extra texture and movement.

I purposely created my ink-blended panel larger than an A2 card front.  Once all the blending and Betterpressing was done, I used the new Precision Layering A2 dies to cut down the panel.  This gave it a beautiful beveled edge.

The crisp black silhouetttes look amazing against those bright Distress Oxide colors, and I love the way the bats appear to be flying right out of the night sky.

Spellbinders Midnight Mischief Release:

These two cards were so much fun to create, and I especially love the combination of bright ink-blended backgrounds and solid black Halloween silhouettes.
Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope these halloween cards inspire you to create some colorful midnight mischief of your own!
