AALL and CREATE Miss Merry

Oh what fun!  I have something new for you today — AALL & CREATE Miss Merry.  Sometimes it’s just fun to create for the pure joy of it, and that’s exactly the mindset I had going into this project.

I took FULL advantage of the Black Friday sales and stocked up on a whole pile of AALL & Create Goodies.  Why?  Because I genuinely love their designs and wanted to create with products I personally chose and adored, rather than something that arrived on my desk for work.

Don’t get me wrong – I truly appreciate and love the companies I work with (and their products) – but every now and then, you just need to play a little creative hooky – and this was one of those moments.

Colorful Memory Dex die card featuring AALL & Create products, with a whimsical Christmas scene on a teal and green background. The card includes a hand-colored Miss Merry character in a red dress and striped tights, pink houses along the top edge, green trees, small birds, holly leaves, snowflakes, and white paint splatter. The words “sweet season” are centered on the card, and the project is photographed among evergreen branches and bright holiday ornaments.

This line of stamps and dies from AALL & Create truly sparks my creativity.  I can spend hours coloring, stenciling, splattering, and exploring mixed media techniques – and that’s exactly what I did for this Memory Dex project.

I also ordered an AALL & Create Memory Dex Box to display my cards and will be sharing a video on how I decorate mine.  In addition, I picked up an AALL & Create Undecorated Square Album Cover for larger projects, with a decorating video planned for the New Year.

How to create the AALL and CREATE Miss Merry Memory Dex Card:

1 – Create the Memory Dex Card Base

Start by using the #74 Snowland Die Set to die cut the Memory Dex base twice from white cardstock and once from Simon Says Stamp Audrey Blue cardstock for the back panel.
Cut the snowflake die 3 times from Glimmer white cardstock

Cut the house and tree die once from white cardstock.

Next, Color the decorative top portion of the back panel with copic markers (colors shown below),  then ink-blend around the edges using Simon Says Stamp Ocean Ink .  Adhere this colored piece to the Audrey Blue panel to create a clean, finished back.

Use the same colors to color the tree and house panel.

For the front inlaid panel, lightly ink-blend the surface with Limelicious and Perfection Pawsitively Saturated Inks.  Place the panel onto a Craft Mat and position  the AALL & Create Breaking Point Stencil (using the square panel disign).   Ink-blend again with Seafoam and Ocean inks to add depth and contrast – or, as I like to call it, a little background noise.

2 – Stamp and Color the Main Images

Using Memento Tuxedo Black in and your Misti Stamping Tool, stamp the Miss Merry, the birds and the holly from the #608 stamp set along with the tree from the #TP-1310 stamp set.

Color all the images with copic markers, (or your favorite coloring medium), then fussy-cut out the images and set them aside for assembly.

Beside the card is a handwritten Copic marker color chart listing the shades used for Miss Merry, the background, ornaments, birds, trees, and details, shown on a white sheet for reference.

3 – Create the Sentiment

Stamp the “sweet season” sentiment from stamp set#TP-1310 onto a scrap of white cardstock using VersaFine Clair Nocturne (my favorite black ink).  Trim the two words apart, then use a black marker to draw a simple border around each piece for a clean, graphic look.

4 – Assemble the card

Adhere the front panel tot he Memory Dex base using liquid white glue.  Add small pieces of foam tape the backs of all the colored and fussy-cut images.

Before committing everything with adhesive, dry-fit the tree and Miss Merry to determine placement.  Stamp the outline of the walking bird directly to the background with black ink- I trim off the legs when fussy cutting and stamp them in place instead for a more natural look.

Attach all the elements to the card.  Use a Sakura #10 white gel pen to add dots to the eyes and subtle highlights to the hat and coat.

To finish, add sparkle to the rooftops and trees with Icicle Stickles.  Place the card in a splat box and splatter with Pawsitively Perfect White Splatter Medium and let it dry.

That’s a wrap!  My first Memory Dex Card is finished – just in time for the holidays, haha.  This project was such a fun creative break for me, and I truly enjoyed every minute of it.

Question?  Would you like to see videos of my creative process for these cards in the future?  Let me know in the comments – I’d love your feedback.

Ok, I’m off to the kitchen bake Cathedral Window Cookies and Shortbread, and a pound cake for Christmas Day Trifle, and maybe a Ginger Pound Cake… because that’s one of Ian’s favorite, and he absolutely deserves a treat for putting up with me, haha.

  1. I spotted this on Instagram and thought it was terrific!
I love their products too, but didn’t use any Christmas
    “stuff” this year!

  2. SO much to love about this Sandi – you are an absolute whizz with mixed media. The colours, texure, design are all fabulous. When I eventually hang up my work boots, I will be playing hooky all the time and plan on having a lot of fun with mixed media!
