Die Cut Christmas Window Card

Hi cardmaking friends!  Welcome back.  I’m currently stitching a Vintage Christmas Fergus to share with you next week, so my creative brain is fully in vintage holiday mode.

Today’s project follows that theme!  I combined a couple of die sets from the Simon Says Stamp And Everything Nice release to create a cozy, vintage-inspired Christmas card.  I used the Balcony windows and Holiday Window Decor dies, and finished the background with the Sizzix Brickwork 3D embossing folder for that old-world charm.

This card is super quick and easy, and is 100% die cut – no stamping and no coloring required.  I did just a little ink blending to grunge up the brick, and then, I splattered the whole thing because we’re currently in the middle of a snowstorm….and well, art imitates life!

This card is also a great excuse to “dumpster dive” your scrap bin and finally use some of those bazillion leftover cardstock pieces – no judgement, we all have them!, LOL

How to create the Die Cut Christmas Window Card:

1 – Die cut and assemble the Window Window and wrought iron trim

Use the Balcony Windows die set to cut a window and the wrought iron trim – cut the window from white cardstock three times. and the trim from black cardstock three times.

Next, stack and glue the layers together for dimension.

Then, trace the window shape onto cream cardstock, cut inside the traced line, and glue it to the back of the window to create the look of closed drapes.

2 – Create the Card Base

Cut a piece of white cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″

Next, cut a second panel 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, emboss it using the Sizzix Brickwork embossing folder, then ink-blend with Latte and Cappuccino ink until you achieve a warm, vintage brick look.

PRO-TIP – This embossing folder shrinks your cardstock by roughly 1/4″, so trim the card base edges after assembly for a clean finish.

3 – Create the Wreath and Garlands

Die cut the wreath and garlands from green using the Holiday Window Decor die set.

Cut tiny ornaments using the small circle die in your preferred colors and glue them on.

Finish by adding bows cut from Mirror Gold.

4 -Assemble the Card

Adhere the window to the brick background, then attach the wrought iron trim.

Next, use foam squares to adhere the wreath and garlands for added depth.

And just like that – Voila!  Your festive holiday window scene is complete.

Instead of adding a sentiment to the front (and covering any of that pretty detail), I stamped my greeting inside.
