Lets We Forget – A Simple and Striking Poppy Card

Today I’m sharing a simple yet powerful card design for Remembrance Day, created with the Simon Says Stamp Poppy Field Stamp and Stencil Set.  This beautiful field of red poppies instantly brings to mind reflection, gratitude, and the quiet strength of remembrance.  I wanted the artwork itself to be the focus – no heavy embellishing, just bold color, clean lines and a design that invites a moment to pause and honor those who have served and sacrificed.

The coordinating stencil makes the coloring effortless and allows those vibrant reds and fresh greens to shine.  It’s a wonderful set if you love impactful imagery without a lot of fuss, and it’s perfect for thoughtful, heartfelt cards like this one.  Lest we forget.

A handmade card featuring a bold poppy field design. The card showcases bright red stenciled poppy flowers with fresh green leaves, stamped in black for crisp outlines. The artwork is framed with a black cardstock border and mounted on a white card base. The card is displayed on a dark stone background with sprigs of green foliage and small white berries surrounding it.

How to create today’s Card:

1 – Stamp the Image:

Start with a 4″ x 6″ piece of white cardstock.  Ink the poppy outline image from the Poppy Field Stamp Set using Simon Says Stamp Premium Black Ink and stamp it firmly, ensuring crips lines.  Set aside for a moment to dry.

2 – Add Color with the Coordinating Stencils

Place the stamped image onto the Craft Tacky Mat  and the flower stencil over the stamped panel.

  • Flowers:
Start with Apple ink as your light layer and ink blend the entire flower
  • Add shadowing with Cranberry, concentrating it toward the base of each petal.
  • Deepen the centers and edges with Cherry, creating that rich, velvety poppy red.
  • Leaves:
  • Blend Limelicous with the first leaf/stem stencil – add a small amount of Pearfection to add shadow and depth.
  • Add Pearfection to define curves and leaf folds with the second stencil.
  • Use Field with the third and final stencil for the depth of field in the foliage and natural shading.

The layered blending does all the work for you – soft transitions and bold vivid color with very little effort.

3 – Assemble the Card:

Add the art piece to a 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ piece of black cardstock to create a matte.

Then, create a 5″ x 7″ side folding card by trimming white cardstock to 7″ x 10″, score and fold at 5″.

Attach the art piece panel to the center of the card base to create the third white frame.

I chose not to add a sentiment on this card.  I originally thought about including the word “Remember”, but I didn’t have one small enough that felt right for the design.  In the end, the artwork Speaks so beautifully on its own – especially for Remembrance Day – that it didn’t need anything more.

PRO-TIP
Try switching the colors to soft pinks, warm oranges, and sunny yellows to transform this poppy design into Icelandic poppies – perfect for birthdays, thank-you cards, and cheerful summer projects.  It’s truly a versatile set and a great staple to keep in your crafting stash.  There are some great card samples over on the Simon Say Stamp site:

  1. Beautiful card, Sandi. It reminds me of the days when red paper poppies were sold on Veterans Day as a reminder and a way to contribute to the financial needs of veterans. I appreciate your caring words for our veterans.
