MemoryDex Challenge Card Theme #1

Hi card-making friends, welcome back!  Today, I’m excited to share my MemoryDex Challenge Card for Theme #1  – Photography for the AALL & Create Challenge.  Since I absolutely love photography, it was no surprise that this was the very first theme I chose to tackle.  I already had the Click Chic Die in my stash along with the Shutter Bug stamp set by Janet Klein, so I was more than ready to dive right in.

How to create the MemoryDex Challenge Card  – Theme #1

1 – Create the MemoryDex Base

Begin by die-cutting the Chick Chic base from black cardstock,.  Next, die-cut the front camera panel from watercolor cardstock, and cut the round camera lens and the light piece above it from silver mirror cardstock for a fun, reflective accent.

Place the watercolor panel on a protected work surface and paint four horizontal rows of rainbow color across the panel.  I used Gansai Tambi watercolors #34, 40, 51, and 62 to create a bright, vibrant background.

Once the panel is completely dry, as a black marker to draw in the camera details and line work.  Then, add texture by stamping randomly over the surface with VersaFine Clair Nocturn ink  using the Stamped Stories and Dot Dash Grid stamps – one stamp from each set adds just the right amount of mixed-media interest.

2 – Stamp, Color and Cut out the Shutter Bug Fairy

Stamp the fairy image from the Shutter Bug stamp set into Hammermill white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Color her with copic markers or a medium of your choice, then carefully fussy-cut her out.  Stamp the word “click” and color it with a yellow copic marker to match the cheerful camera theme.

3 – Add Embellishments

Adhere the finished watercolor camera panel to the black MemoryDex Base.  Use foam squares to pop the fairy up for dimension and visual interest.

Next, add the flowers, sun and grass from the Earth & Sky Ephemera Pack.  I absolutely love these ephemera packs – the images are adorable, perfectly pre-cut, and ready to go, making them instant mixed-media magic.  Plus, the bright colors look just like something I would have colored myself….without the extra work, LOL.

To finish, place the entire card into a splat box and splatter with white paint for that final touch of playful, artsy texture – because let’s be honest, In my world, splatter makes everything better! haha.
