Simon Says Stamp Positive and Negative Arched Cards

Hi, card-making friends! Today, I’m excited to share my Simon Says Stamp Positive and Negative Arched Cards with you. With a new Simon Says Stamp release just around the corner, I couldn’t resist sneaking in one more bit of inspiration from the Friend Like You collection.

For today’s projects, I’m showcasing the A2 Arches—because who doesn’t love a nested set of dies?—paired with the bold and beautiful Rose Branch and the Solo Smile die set, which brings such a fun, retro 70’s vibe.

What I love most about nesting dies is their versatility. Not only do they create perfect mats and add unique shapes to your designs, but they’re also fantastic for cutting layered tunnels. Plus, you can repurpose the negative pieces to craft a second card—double the creativity!

Gold and white paint splatters add a touch of texture and visual interest.

Pawsitively Saturated Inks:  Jade, Eucalyptus and Juniper

For today’s cards, I’m using the NEW Pawsitively Saturated Inks from Simon’s latest release—Jade, Eucalyptus, and Juniper. These soft, misty green tones are a beautiful addition to the Simon Says Stamp ink lineup. I’m absolutely in love with these shades; they’re rich, versatile, and perfect for creating masculine cards.

How to create the Simon Says Stamp Positive and Negative Arched Cards.

  1. Ink Blend the Panels
Blend three 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ panels with the new Pawsitively Saturated Ink shades—Jade, Eucalyptus, and Juniper—to create a beautiful gradient effect.

  2. Die-Cut the Arches
Use the A2 Arches dies to cut an arch from each inked panel, creating a cascading layered look.  For the last dark green panel, once the arch is cut, lay it back in and tape it from the back as it’s the backdrop for our card.

  3. Prepare the Card Front
Cut a white card front measuring 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. Use the next size up Arch die to cut a window from the center of the panel.

  4. Emboss the Card Front
Place the white panel inside the Wavy Ways Embossing Folder and run it through your die-cutting machine.
PRO TIP: Spritz both sides of the panel lightly with water before embossing. This helps the paper fibers stretch without cracking and results in a deeper embossed design.

  5. Assemble the Tunnel Layers
Once the embossed panel is dry, layer and glue the inked panels together, aligning the arches to form a tunnel effect. Trim any overhanging edges for a clean finish.

  6. Splatter the card:
Lay the card front into a splat box and splatter with white and gold acrylic paint.
  7. Add the Rose Branch Die-Cut
Die-cut the Rose Branch from glittery gold or metallic cardstock and a second one in black. Adhere the two together, slightly offset so the black gives a shadow effect.  Then adhere it to the center of the tunnel for an elegant focal point.

  8. Finish with the Solo Smile Sentiment
Use the Solo Smile die set to cut a bold sentiment in contrasting colors (black and white works beautifully). Attach the sentiment across the card front with foam squares for dimension.Handmade card featuring a layered arched background in gradient green tones with white splattered paint accents. How to Create the Negative Arched Card

  1. Stack the Arches
Begin by stacking the die-cut arches left over from Card One.
NOTE: You will need to recreate the smallest, darkest arch since it was used as the background panel on the first card.

  2. Emboss the Card Front
Emboss a white card front measuring 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ using the Wavy Ways Embossing Folder. Attach the embossed panel to a top-folding, A2-sized white card base.

  3. Attach the Layered Arches
Adhere the stacked arches to the card front, creating a reverse tunnel effect that mirrors Card One.

  4. Add Paint Splatters
Place the card in a splatter box and flick white and gold acrylic paint across the design for a touch of texture and shine.

  5. Embellish the Card
Finish the card with the same stacked Rose Branch die-cut and a black-and-white layered sentiment for a cohesive look.

Hi Sandi, I have just seen your positive and negative cards, but they look the same to me, what is the difference please? Cheers and Thankyou, Marilyn.

    1. Hi Marilyn:
If you read the instructions, on the first one I used the cut-out “positive” panel, and layered them. In the second one, I used the “negative” or cut-out pieces from the center of the first cut-outs, stacked them and made my second card. The point is – that they look the same, but I didn’t waste any of the die cut pieces.
