Welcome back, crafty friends. I’m still working on all the new releases from Spellbinders. This time I have Spellbinders Felt Sunflower Bloom Heart to share with you. There are 4 new die sets in the Felt Stitch & Create Collection by Nichol Spohr, and this lovely sunflower is one of them. The dies make it super easy to cut out. The stitching dots guide you skillfully around the stitching, and then this cool, long, skinny die creates the felt piece that you fold in half and roll up to make this gorgeous center in the flower. I wish I had made about 20 of these, as I had so many ideas of what to do with them. But alas, I have just 1.
You can view all 4 of the new Summer Felt Stitch and Create sets here.

How to create the Spellbinders Felt Sunflower Bloom Heart:
Start by die-cutting the sunflower pieces and then 6 leaf pieces to create 3 leaves. Using DMC cotton 3371, stitch all the areas as indicated by the dots created by the dies.
Pro-TIP – I like to use three strands of cotton and make the pieces extra long so I don’t have to stop and start in the middle of my project, especially around the heart with the blanket stitch.
Next, use the largest Nested Hearts die to cut two hearts from the rust-colored felt. On one of the hearts, use a pencil and draw the three swirls. Then do a stem stitch. Place the two hearts together, right sides out, and again, using the DMC 3371 cotton, blanket stitch around the heart. Leave an opening in the top left-hand corner to add stuffing, and then close.
Then, use Dina Wakley Media Glue to glue the leaves on and then the sunflower. Once these pieces are all attached, roll up the sunflower center and glue it to the center.
Pro-TIP – Once the center is rolled up and glued, hold it for 5 minutes to ensure it’s stuck. Then, turn it over and add glue to the entire back of the circle to prevent if from unraveling. Once that is dry, glue it to the center of the sunflower.
Of course you can also cut all of this out of cardstock and use it to decorate a card. I like to do them in felt as they look great on my Tiered Trays, or in my bread bowls I have around my house with little cross stitch stuffies in them.
