Hi cardmaking friends – I’m a little behind from last week, so today I’m finally sharing my AALL and Create MemoryDex #13 Birds & Butterflies challenge card. It’s been sitting half-colored on my desk for over a week while I wrapped up all the Fergus and Eggs Posts…. but the mess is cleared, the inks are capped, and she’s officially finished!
After choosing the challenge theme, I quickly realized I don’t actually own any AALL & Create bird stamps….Oops! Thankfully, I had their Earth & Sky Embellishment Pack, #EP-90, which includes the sweetest little birdies. Mine landed in the bottom right corner – and yes … it may look like he’s dropping purple rhinestones. Totally unplanned, but we’re going with it, haha.
ANYWAY,
I used several new goodies I picked up during the New Year’s Sale, and I’ll share all the details and products with you below.

Products used for the AALL and Create MemoryDex #13 Birds & Butterflies Card:
- TP-1174 Wiggle and Dance – Butterfly Stamps
- #923 – Art Typewriter Stamp
- TP-1258 Stamped Stories (very cool background stamps)
- #72 Bubble Talk, Memory Dex card dies with insert die
- EP-90 Earth & Sky Ephemera

How to create the AALL and Create MemoryDex#13 Birds and Butterflies Card:
Start by die cutting the Bubble Talk MemoryDex from black cardstock and the inner panel from watercolor paper.
Place the watercolor panel on a protected work surface. Lightly spritz both sides with water first, then apply Distress Sprays in: Twisted Citron, Wilted Violet, Salvaged Patina, and Distress Spritz in Fossilized Amber. Allow the colors blend naturally and dry completely.
Once dry, remove the lid from the Fossilized Amber, and use the tube to splatter gold droplets across the panel for added shimmer and texture.
After the splatter has dried, place the panel into your Misti and stamp the ART Typewriter stamp in black in the center of the panel. Then randomly stamp images from the Stamped Stories set in black ink around the edges to build depth and interest. (I call this “background noise). I like to use VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink for this step. It’s super black and you usually only need to stamp it once, even on lumpy watercolor paper. I keep my pad well inked.
Finally, use red line tape to securely adhere the finished panel to the black MemoryDex base.
PRO-TIP: the watercolor paper has been wet twice, so you need a good strong tape to make it lay flat on the background card.

Creating the Art Overlays:
Stamp the Wiggle and Dance butterflies onto Hammermill white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (copic-friendly). Color them with the following Copic Markers, then fussy cut:
- COPIC MARKERS USED:
Teal: BG11, BG13 - Purple: V12, V15
Green: YG11, YG23, G14 - Blue: BG01, BG02, BG05, BG07
Once trimmed out, use a #10 White Gel Pen to add highlight details to the wings for extra dimension and pop.
Next, create the dimensional “Art” overlay. Using the same sprays as the background, splatter another piece of watercolor paper and let it dry. Stamp the “Art Typewriter” image using VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink.
Once dry, fussy cut around only the solid black portion of the stamped word and attach it over the previously stamped background using foam squares. This layered effect adds depth and visual interest to the piece.
Use foam squares to attach the two butterflies. Add three leaves and a small bird from the EP-90 Earth & Sky Ephemera pack to the bottom right corner.
Finally, since I couldn’t find a “create” sentiment in my stash, I printed one from my computer, trimmed it out, added a thin black outline and colored it with a purple copic marker to coordinate. Finish the piece with a few purple rhinestones – and you’re done.
